Kenneth Guy Griswold – 86, of North Reading and formerly of Rochester, NY, died Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Rochester, NY on September 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Guy H. and Delia (Bush) Griswold. He was a graduate of Bates College, Class of 1953 (B.S.), University of Rochester (M.A.) and Bowdoin College (M.S.).
Ken worked for Matthews and Field Lumber and Monroe High School, as a Math Teacher, both in Rochester, NY and as a Professor at Salem State College. He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 53 years.
Ken was a beloved Professor for over thirty years, his passion for educating people, his sense of humor and quick wit made him a favorite on campus. His strength of character, positive outlook, and humble nature helped him overcome many obstacles. He was a friend to all he met. His great accomplishment was his sixty three year marriage to his devoted wife Pat and his seven children. He would beam with pride anytime he talked about his family.
Family members include his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Healey) Griswold; his loving sons, Keith Griswold and his wife Pam, Brian Griswold and his wife Michele Varallo and Kyle Griswold and his wife Caroline, all of North Reading and Matthew Griswold and his wife Jennifer of Shrewsbury; daughters, Nancy Griswold and Tracy Griswold, both of North Reading and Natalie Griswold and her husband Bill Drury of Lynnfield. Also survived by eight grandchildren, Adam, Nathan, Michaela, Drew, Alec, Kenny, Elliot and Ethan.
His funeral will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Tuesday, October 31 at 10 AM. Calling hours will be on Monday, October 30 from 4 to 7 PM.
