Philip C. Spencer

Philip C. Spencer – age 75, of North Reading and formerly of Woburn, passed away peacefully at VA Hospice in Bedford on August 17, 2023.

Born January 15, 1948 in Woburn, MA, Phil was the son of the late Celeste (Dickie) and Robert H. Spencer.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Peg (Mullaney) Spencer, 4 children; Charlotte, Shaun (Deb), Michael (Jenn) and Ryan (Christine); 4 grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Claire and Kelly; his brother, Robert and sisters, Celeste, Dorothy, Cathy and Chris.

Phil served his country in the Army and was a Vietnam Veteran, he was a SP5 and served from 1967 to 1970.

Phil worked in the Technology Field for 40 years and has been a resident of North Reading for the past 40 years

Phil loved golfing, travel, antiquing and sports, both watching and playing/coaching.  He loved spending time in the NH mountains, Seacoast of Maine and Disney World with his family. He will be be missed by his family and friends.

Edward H. Snow

Edward H. Snow – 66, of Winthrop and formerly of North Reading, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Malden, MA on September 5, 1956. He was the son of the late Howard A. and Mary Florence (Gaudette) Snow. He was raised and attended school in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School.

Edward was a kind and friendly person. He was well versed on most current events, and was an avid conversationalist. He enjoyed cooking, music, art, weightlifting, swimming in the ocean, kayaking and bicycling. He lived simply and loved his brother and sisters deeply.

Ed loved photography, poetry, nature, and being the wonderful uncle to many. Ed was a talented engraver and has made several gifts for others with his own hands.

Family members include his loving brother, Arthur E. Snow of North Providence, RI; sisters, Elizabeth A. Poor of Methuen, Carolyn L. MacLeod of Stoneham, Kathryn M. Roderick of Malden, Lorraine M. Snow of North Reading and Barbara R. Snow of Rochdale; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Tuesday, August 22 from to 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a prayer service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.

Joan M. Courtemanche

Joan M.  (Casey) Courtemanche – 90, of North Reading and formerly of Somerville, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, after a brief illness.

Born in Somerville, MA on June 28, 1933. She was the daughter of the late John and Edith (Manning) Casey. She was a graduate of Regis College and received her Masters of Education Degree. Joan was a resident of North Reading for the past 49 years and an active and longtime member of St. Theresa’s Parish.

Joan was an Elementary School Teacher for 15 years in Everett and Lexington. She was also the Music Director for St. Theresa’s Parish in North Reading for 8 years and later the Church organist at St. Adelaide’s Parish in Peabody for 16 years.

Joan loved music and was a talented musician, she was joyful all the time, she loved to laugh and share happiness with others. Joan loved her family and friends and was very devoted to her faith. She was an avid Red Sox Fan and loved to dance.

Family members include her beloved husband of 57  years, John F. Courtemanche, her loving son Brian Courtemanche  and her daughter Susan (Courtemanche) Lindey; grandchildren, Matthew and Casey Courtemanche.

Her funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Monday, August 14 at 9:15 AM followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street, North Reading. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Peabody. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.

Teresa L. O’Connor

Teresa L. (Calorio) O’Connor – 77, of North Reading and formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Winchester Hospital.

Born in Cambridge, MA on November 27, 1945, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Caroline N. (Accardi) Calorio. She was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge High & Latin School. She retired from Krohne, Inc., where she worked in Accounts Receivables – Credit and Collections. She has been a resident of North Reading for the past 50 years.

Teri was a vibrant and outgoing person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother to Magen and Jarred, sister to Jim and Carolyn and “Aunty” to her nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Teri was also ”mother” to Magen and Jarred’s many friends, offering her home as a gathering spot from when they were children into adulthood. She was happiest when she was in the midst of any family or friend get together where she could feed people and laugh. Teri could be counted on to be in the crowd at countless games, rain or shine, dance recitals, performances and all of life’s special events for her children, her children’s friends, her family, and friends.

Teri loved cooking and sharing her food recipes. She was an avid reader just like her mother. As Teri got older, she decided that she wanted to experience all that life had to offer and decided she wouldn’t say no to any adventure that anyone asked her to join. This led her to a drag show, theatre shows, concerts, countless trips with her family and friends, baseball games and so much more.

Family members include her loving son, Jarred Scott O’Connor, her loving daughter, Magen Caroline O’Connor and her late son, Scott Matthew O’Connor; her brother, James Calorio and her sister, Carolyn Calorio; nieces and nephews, Tommy, Sean, Kerry, Brian, Patrick, Andrew and  Alyssa; great niece and great nephews, Kayla, Haley, PJ, Shannon, Enzo, Matthew, Gabriella and Danny; great  great nephew, Parker.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 14 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Darren Paul Johnson

Darren Paul Johnson, 53, of Goodyear, Arizona passed away on April 14, 2023. Darren was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts on September 24, 1969 to Paul and Judy Johnson of Goodyear, Arizona.

Darren graduated from North Reading High School in North Reading, MA with the Class of 1988 where he lettered in Golf and Hockey. He received the most valuable player award for golf in his senior year. He always played right-handed as a lefty.

Darren attended Essex Agriculture School in Danvers, MA before becoming the Golf Course Superintendent at Cedar Glenn Golf Club in Saugus, MA for 10 years. He moved to Goodyear, Arizona in 2006 and worked for 12 years as the Golf Course Superintendent at Eagles Nest Golf Club in Pebble Creek under the director of Golf Operations Paul McGinnis, past president of the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America.

Darren was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of New England and the Cactus and Pines Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of Arizona.

He was an avid sports fan and followed every move his beloved Boston Bruins hockey team made. He was so happy with their record this year.

He is survived by his parents Paul and Judy Johnson, his brother Michael, wife Lisa, niece Kaia and nephew Bradley of Topsfield, MA, his aunt, uncle, and many cousins along with friends and buddies on the North Shore area of Massachusetts.
