Hazel T. Sample

Hazel Thelma (Pierce) Sample– 93, of North Reading, died at her home on Thursday, April 30, 2020. She has been a resident of North Reading for the past 60 years.

Born in Lynn, MA on May 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence E. and Alice F. (Stickney) Pierce. Hazel was the sister of the late Lawrence E. Pierce and the late Ethel (Pierce) Somerby.

She was raised and attended school in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn High School. Hazel worked in electronic plants, like General Electric in Lynn and she also worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover.

Hazel was a kind and honest loving wife to Roy V. Sample for 59 years. She was a homemaker, a good cook, she liked antiques and collected dolls.

Lorraine M. Masellas

Lorraine M. (Norris) Masellas – 89, of North Reading and formerly of Lynn, died at her home Sunday, April 26, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley A. Masellas.

Born in Lynn, MA on September 5, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Ernest M. and Dorothy M. (Dube) Norris. Lorraine was a longtime school bus driver and she worked and retired from the Stop & Shop Bakery Shop. She has been a resident North Reading for the past 55 years.

She always put everybody’s needs in front of her own. She always enjoyed the days they got together for Dominos with her cousins and sometime husbands will join in. Lorraine also loved to do ceramics.

Family members include her loving daughter, Jill Marie Masellas; her sons, Stanley Joseph Masellas, Michael John Masellas and Paul John Masellas; nine grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Lois McKenzie

Lois (Melville) McKenzie – 89, of Peabody and formerly of North Reading, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to Carlton L. McKenzie, Jr.

Born on May 1, 1930, in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Edna (Howland) Melville.

Lois received her B.S. in Education at Bridgewater University. She was a retired office staff worker for the Minuteman Vocation School.

She has been a resident of Peabody for the last 6 years and formerly of North Reading for 56 years. Lois was a longtime member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading. She was a Camp Fire Leader and Sunday School teacher for years. She volunteered at the local food pantry, FISH program, and Christian Community Service.

Lois loved to spend time with her family and her best friend of 67 years, her husband Carl. Lois was deeply involved in her church and many community volunteer activities. She loved little children and was an advocate for educational, environmental and immigration issues. Lois played tennis, loved to hike, swim, sail, make crafts and bake.

Other family members include her loving children, Steven McKenzie of Dracut, Susan Bowden of Tyngsborough, Linda Mason of Colorado and Gail Kosmel of Slovakia, her brother John Melville of Florida, sisters, Janet Manter of NH and Marjorie Knight of Foxborough; 9 grandchildren, Danya, Meghan, Alyssa, Bryan, Rachel, Kristin, Daniel, Tim, and Sarah.

Due to Lois’ love of community the family requests that in lieu of flowers please order take out or wait for a small business to reopen and support our local economy. In memory of Lois please dedicate your meal/purchase to Lois and celebrate a life well lived. Family, friends, and strangers please stay safe. Graveside services will be private. Eleanor M. McIntire

Eleanor M. “Ellie” McIntire – 78, of North Reading, died Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Royal Meadow View in North Reading, after complications from COVD-19.

Born in Lowell, MA on April 26, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Ralph A. and Ruth N. (Belcher) McIntire. She was a lifelong resident of North Reading. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and the Trinity Evangelical Church.

Ellie was a resident of Peabody Court in North Reading for many years, where she called bingo for her friends. Ellie enjoyed walking and gardening. She always cared about and helped many of her neighbors. She was always there if someone needed a helping hand.

Family members include her loving sister, Marjorie Bowen of Salem, NH and her late husband Harry; late brothers, William M. McIntire and Robert D. McIntire; sister-in-law, Carol C. McIntire of Freedom, NH; also survived by 4 nieces, 4 nephews, several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Nancy L. Castine

Nancy L. (Mullen) Castine – 75, of Haverhill, formerly of North Reading, Reading and of Winchester, died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at the High Pointe House in Haverhill. She is the beloved wife of R.
