Robert Greenwood

Robert “Bob” Greenwood – 67, of Medford, passed Sunday, February 14, 2021, after a brief illness. Born on May 25, 1953, he was the eldest son of the late Richard and Zoa Smith (Greenwood) of Medford, MA.

He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and Medford Police Auxiliary. Bob was a man with a big heart who would selflessly put everyone else’s needs above his own. He was well known for his sense of humor and lighting up a room, his kindness in treating everyone he knew like family and his unlimited generosity to those he loved. He was a true gentleman who wore a full suit to every family gathering. Nothing meant more to Bob than his family and friends that have surrounded him throughout his life.

He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Family members include his loving wife of 44 years, (late) Leona Greenwood, their son, Robert and Diana Greenwood; daughter, Nancy and Bill Newhall; grandchildren, Kyle, Jarryd, Caitlyn and Madisyn; brothers, (late) Ralph Smith and Rick and Luann Smith; sister, (late) Ruth Smith; in-laws, (late) Charlie, Eddie, Johnny and Laura, Terry and Kim Lanteigne, Priscilla (Kitty) Lanteigne and Jimmy Keefe, Betty and Bob Geist, Mary and John Putis. Bob also leaves behind many nephews, nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces.

Visitation will be held at Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will begin at Croswell Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 10:30 AM and will conclude at Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.

Claire A. Jones

Claire A. (Sandborn) Jones – 89, of North Reading and formerly of Middleton, died at her home on Sunday, February 14, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Leon R. Jones.

Born in Salem, MA on December 14, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Edith (Hanson) Sandborn. Claire was a graduate of the licensed Practical Nursing Program at the Northeast Metro Tech. She worked at the Winchester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, as a Charge Nurse for twenty years, they called her Kandy.

Claire was always known for caring and cooking for others. She enjoyed crafts, camping, baking, cooking and gardening. She has been a resident of North Reading for over seventy years and she attended the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Family members include her loving daughter, Denise Peters of North Reading; sons, Douglas Jones of Kezar Falls, Maine and the late Donald Jones; her brother, Thomas Sandborn and three late brothers; her sister, Virginia Hull and four late sisters. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Paul Douglas Anderson

Paul  Douglas “Doug” Anderson, Ph.D. – age 87, of North Reading and formerly Lynnfield, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021, peacefully surrounded by his family.  He served from 1951 to 1959 in the U.S. Navy as a Marine Medic.

Doug retired after 49 years as a Professor of Anatomy and Physiology and Biology.  He was a published author of several textbooks and study guides.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, camping and most of all spending time with his family.  He was a season ticket holder for 30 years of the New England Patriots.  After empty nesting Doug and Bev enjoyed a lot of travel. Doug was a 48 year resident of Lynnfield and 5 years in North Reading. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Usher for many years at St. Maria Goretti Parish in Lynnfield. He was a member of the Wakefield Retired Men’s Club and a representative for Lynnfield at Essex Technical Institute.

He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly, whom he was married to for 65 years; he is also survived by his children, Donna and husband Roger, Doug, Dale and husband Leo, Linda and husband Ernie, Kathy and husband Tim and Lori and husband Jeff; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  In addition to his parent’s he is preceded by 2 brothers and a sister.

There will be a calling hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Saturday, February 20th from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.   His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ave Maria Parish, 112 Chestnut Street in Lynnfield at 10:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to NORD (National Organization for rare Disorders). www.croswellfuneralhome.com

William J. Murphy

William  J.  Murphy – He was the Son of Margaret (Regan) and Walter Murphy and a longtime resident of North Reading. He died at his home on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 86 years old.

William was a graduate of Watertown High and Merrimack College and worked in real estate with his Mother for many years starting with the Wayside Inn in the 1950’s. This evolved into the Wayside Garden Apartments which is now known as the Wayside Realty Trust with William the Trustee.

He leaves his longtime companion Marilyn Huttunen whom he named Co-trustee of same. His favorite saying was “less is more”.

Gladys B. Emmons

Gladys B. (Murrin) Emmons – 92, of Reading, formerly of Stoneham and Falmouth, died at her home on Monday, February 1, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Irving Emmons.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 30, 1928. Gladys was the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget (Walsh) Murrin. She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Stoneham.

Gladys was a homemaker and had a great love for her family. She had a love for animals, especially Jasper her dog and Tiffany her cat. She had enjoyed Cape Cod and her quaint picketed white fence colonial home.

Gladys enjoyed going down by the water with her niece Sharon, who could take her on adventurous field trips.

Family members include her loving sister, Myra (Murrin) MacDonald of Newton, Anita (Murrin) Dorsey and her husband Paul of North Reading, Shirley(Murrin) Brown and her husband John of Danvers; the late Theresa (Murrin) O’Brien and Kathleen Connolly Murrin; brothers, Eddie Murrin and his wife Barbara of Stoneham, Bobby Murrin and his wife Fran of Tewksbury and the late Daniel Murrin; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street (Rt. 62), North Reading on Friday, February 5 at 11:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed (sttheresanreading.org). There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
