Bruce Kincaid Donle – 78, of Strafford, New Hampshire and formerly of North Reading, died surrounded by his family at Kirkwood Corners Assisted Living, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

Born in Winchester on March 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Earl and Doris Donle. He was a proud resident of Tower Hill Road, North Reading for 64 years.  He attended North Reading schools and Graduated in 1961.  After high school, Bruce worked as a mechanic at Sears and as an Insurance Adjuster at Allstate Insurance Company. In 1964, Bruce joined the National Guard and began his lifelong career of public service.  He received his Master’s in Criminal Justice from Ana Maria College.

Bruce was a 32 year member of the North Reading Police Department.  He loved his job.  During his career, Bruce was the department’s Armor and Firearms Instructor for 26 years. He was a true marksman and great teacher. Bruce was also in charge of Firearms and Licensing.  He served these positions with pride.

In 2007, Bruce and his wife moved to their dream home on Bow Lake, in Strafford, New Hampshire, where he had been vacationing since the 1950’s. With his family and friends, Bruce always enjoyed the lake.  Activities such as swimming, boating, skiing, sailing, and watching sunsets were enjoyed each year.  He loved hosting guests so they could share his love of the lake.

Bruce had a strong commitment to his family and lifelong friends.  He enjoyed traveling, boating, working on the house and in the yard, and socializing with friends.  Bruce always liked learning new things and often became an expert at them. His interests included; gunsmithing, computers, investing, beer brewing, carpentry, mechanics, shooting, sailing, snowmobiling, and photography.  If there was a project to be done, Bruce knew how to do it and was eager to help everyone.  He was a member of the Masonic Temple and Shriners and a lifelong member of the NRA, and the Reading Rifle and Revolver Club.

Family members include his wife of 53 years, Clarinda M. (Santos) Donle.  He is also survived by his loving children, Kimberly Meaney and her husband Mark of Ipswich.  Kevin Donle and his wife Kathy of North Reading.  His brother Wayne Donle and his wife Simone of Strafford, NH, and his sister-in-law Diane Donle of Texas. Bruce was predeceased by his brother Keith Donle of Texas.  Bruce is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Patrick, Katherine, and Ryan Meaney, and Taryn Gately and Kyle Donle.  He was also very close with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

His funeral will be held at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Monday, September 20 at 10:00 AM. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. James J. (Butch) Maloney – 90, of North Reading and formerly of Everett, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 10, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Norinne (Treanor) Maloney.

Born in Everett, MA on August 31, 1931. He was the son of the late James and Celia (McCormack) Maloney. He was raised in Everett, he was a graduate of Everett Vocational School, Class of 1949 and Wentworth Institute.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. Lucky for him the war ended before he arrived in Korea.

In 1956 he married Norinne (Treanor) Maloney and they moved to North Reading in the early 1960’s, where they raised their four children.

In 1960 he went to work for MIT or “The Institute” as Butch called it. He began his work as a carpenter and union shop steward until eventually becoming a shop supervisor until his retirement in 1992. During his retirement his greatest joy was being around his four grandchildren. He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 60 years and a member of St. Theresa’s Church.

He was an avid sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics. As a child he enjoyed taking the train to Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox play. Had a kind spirit and was an inspiration to all children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family members include his four loving children, James Maloney and his wife Donna of North Reading, Chris Maloney of Beverly, Anne Maloney of North Reading and Brett Maloney of Middleton; his sister Loretta Barrasso of Everett; brother and sister-in-law of Patricia Treanor of FL, Gene and Karen Treanor of Tazmania, Australia and the late Patricia Holt; he was the brother of the late Thomas and Dorothy Maloney and Mary Goodwin; four grandchildren, Kelly and her husband Ricky Allston, Laura Maloney and Jeremiah, Jimmy Maloney and his wife Lauren and Danny Maloney. He was also survived by nine great grandchildren, Karissa, Matthew, Lucy, Casey, Nora, Emmy, Bailey, Tyler James, Hazel and many nieces and nephews. He was affectionally known to all as “Papa Butch”.

His funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Saturday, September 18 from 9:15 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street (Rt. 62) North Reading. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. James C. Howell – 79, of North Reading and formerly of Revere, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Revere, MA on April 4, 1942, he was the son of the late William F. and Marian L. (Oberlander) Howell. James was raised and attended school in Revere.

He was a retired carpenter and a resident of North Reading for the past 48 years. James served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1960 to 1964.

James loved to play golf and watch football and he enjoyed old cars. He was a funny caring and giving person who loved the Lord.

Family members include his cherished wife of 48 years, Kathleen P. (Carr) Howell; his sons, Michael J. Howell and his wife Melissa of Haverhill and Douglas F. Howell and his wife Lindsay of North Reading; daughters, Cheryl Finnegan of North Reading and Joanne Cunneen of Saugus; his brother, David Howell and wife Wendy of Haverhill and sister Marjario Greenstein of Saugus; three grandchildren, Keegan (13), Addie (7) and Graeme (4).

Marguerite A. “Peggye” (Kirby) Bauer – 109, of Charlton, formerly of Reading and St. Louis, Missouri, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, surrounded by her family, at the Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred H. Bauer.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 6, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Adeline (Ashton) Kirby.  She was a graduate of Beaumont High School in St. Louis.

Peggye was a retired private secretary for the Retail Credit Company in Missouri. She moved to Reading in 1999 and to Charlton in 2010. She was a member of the Union Congregational Church in North Reading and a 61 year member of The Order of Eastern Star (Mount Carmel Chapter, No. 230 in North Reading and Hope Chapter, No. 313 in St. Louis).

Peggye was someone that anytime you saw her she was full of life, smiling and always curious.  Her smile would light up a room and she told so many stories with such joy. She loved to sing and was a member of a singers group that visited nursing homes who brought happiness to so many.  She loved to dance and enjoyed many Shriner’s dances with her late husband. She loved crocheting afghans, reading and spending time with her family.

Family members include her late son Fred Kirby Bauer; she is survived by her daughter- in- law, Kay J. Bauer;  late siblings Alfred and George Kirby (twin brother), Grace Radford, Ruth Johns, and Mary Jane Maxwell. She was the loving grandmother to Kim Bauer, Jan Rasche and Jill DeCourcy; cherished great grandmother to Keith Carl and his wife Kendra, Andrew Ratcliffe and his wife Bethany, Brit Ratcliffe, Kelley Cleary and her husband David, Ashley and Matthew DeCourcy and special great-great grandmother to Ryan and Jacob Carl, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 9th at 10:30 A.M. at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading . There will be no calling hours. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

John  S.  Doucette – 79, of Reading and formerly of North Reading, died at his home on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Born in Reading, MA on January 10, 1942, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Alice Doucette. John was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1959. He was an exceptional athlete, especially in baseball and football. He was awarded the first all-around sportsman award.

John was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran. He was A1C and he served from 1960 to 1964.

John worked for AVCO on the Apollo Antenna Program; Sanders Associates in Nashua, NH as a Technician; AAA for several years and in his later years as a machinist for before retiring at age 58.

He was an enthusiastic Boston sports fan. His family remembers fondly of his devotion to “his teams”, even when they made him yell at his TV Set. John loved to travel especially to New Hampshire with family during vacations. He was a devout Catholic and active in his church.

John loved his family. Not only did he love spending time with his children and grandchildren, but he also cherished his many nieces and nephews. John also had several friends, he enjoyed spending time socially with Maureen, Ed and the folks where he lived.

John has been a resident of Reading for the past 25 years and was a member of St. Agnes Church.

Family members include his daughters, Janette A. Doucette of Virginia Beach, VA, Cathy J. Doucette of Billerica and Sandra L. Williams of NH; sons, Michael J. Doucette and his wife Colleen of Ashby, MA, John C. Doucette and his wife Joelle of Georgia and the late Paul J. Doucette; his sister, Nancy O’Donnell of Stoneham, he was the brother of the late Robert Doucette and Barbara Winters.; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; John also continued to have a special friendship with his former wife Diana.
