Rudolf R. “Rudy” Boentgen – 80, of North Reading and formerly of New York City, NY, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Winchester Hospital.
Born in New York City, NY on January 12. 1942. He was the son of the late Rudolf and Helen (Mueller) Boentgen. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and he received his Master’s Degree from Northeastern University.
Rudolf was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, he was a First Lieutenant and served from 1961 to 1966.
He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at AVCO, Teledyne Engineering Corporation, Instron Corporation and NSTAR. He was technically minded and his homemade R/C Boat won his school’s Science Fair prize. He was the author of several academic white papers, he was a founding member of the Boston Audio Society and he dabbled in poetry. Rudolf enjoyed model building, sports cars and Hi-Fi audio systems.
He was a member of the Boylston Schul-Verein, Porsche Club of America and Boston Audio Society
He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 48 years and was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lynnfield for many years.
Family members include his Loving wife of 42 years, Joanna (Kotce) Boentgen; his son, Rudolf C. Boentgen and his daughter, Kristen J. Boentgen.
His funeral will be held on Monday, July 18 at 10:30 AM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 17 from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 708 Lowell Street, Lynnfield, MA 01940.
One of the smartest people I’ve ever known. We loved his dry humor too. Rest in Peace Rudy and thank you for your service. You’ve earned it.
