Arthur F.
McGonagle, Jr. - 85,
of North Reading, formerly of Malden, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the
Wilmington Health Care Center. Born in Medford, MA on
April 18,1929, he was the son of the late Arthur F.,Sr. and Catherine G. (Lorden) McGonagle. Arthur was raised and attended school in
Malden. He was a graduate of Malden
Catholic High School, Class of 1946 and a graduate of Boston College, Class
of 1952. He was a U.S. Army Veteran
of World War II. Arthur served as a Clerk in the 62nd Signal
Battalion. He attended Keio University in Tokyo and at Sendai and Koriyama in
Northern Japan. Arthur worked for many
years as a Pharmaceutical salesman at Wyeth. He was a resident of North
Reading for 52 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s Church. He always had a great sense
of humor, he was very caring and loved his family. He liked to sing and dance,
watch football, loved animals and would take in stray and homeless animals.
He was proud of being a Boston College graduate, being Irish and always was a
good conversationalist. Family members include his
beloved wife of 58 years, Ann M. (Rinciari) McGonagle; daughters, Lisa Boisvert of
Tewksbury, Lori Madden and her husband Tommy of Andover and Linda Parr of
Wakefield; grandchildren, Ashley and
Rosalie Parr, Marie Boisvert, Tealia and Lacey
Madden; he was the brother of the late Donald McGonagle.
His Memorial Funeral Mass
will be held on Friday, January 2 at 10:30 AM, at St. Theresa’s Church, 63
Winter Street (Rt. 62), North Reading. Interment will follow at Oak Grove
Cemetery in Medford. There will be no calling hours. In Lieu of flowers

Claire Ann
Miller - 82,
of Carver, formerly of Templeton and Arlington, died Friday, December 19,
2014 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born in Boston, MA on
October 24,1932,
she was the daughter of the late George F. Miller, Sr. and Martha (Karlson) Snider. Claire was raised and
attended school in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School,
Class of 1951. Claire worked as a Child
Care Assistant. She loved dinning out and traveling to the seashore. She was always very kind, caring and
sociable. Family members include her
nephews, George F. Miller, III of Maryland, Kenneth and Kevin Miller, both of Florida;
her niece, Helen Miller of Maryland and her cousin, Mary Manning McLean of
Duxbury. She is also survived by several loving and caring friends. She was
the sister of the late Robert H. and George F. Miller, Jr. Her funeral will be held at

Richard J. ”Dick” Neal, Sr. - 79, of East Falmouth, formerly of North Reading and Arlington, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the E.N. Roger Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was the son of the late Waldo A. and Louise K. (Weeber) Neal, predeceased by his brother, Roger W. Neal (who he was married to Marie McCarthy) Neal. He was the loving husband of 56 years to Janet L. (MacMillan) Neal; loving father of Richard J. Neal, Jr., DMD and his wife Eileen, Wolfeboro Falls, NH, Geoffrey D. Neal, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Robert A. Neal, Rochester, NH and his daughter, Patricia A. Neal, North Reading. He was the cherished grandfather of nine, Allison Graham and her husband Scott., Victoria Neal, Andrea Neal, Richard Neal III, Catherine Neal, Sarah Neal, Crystal Jackson and husband Mathew, Rachel Wood, and John Wood; one great- grandchild, Owen Lucas Jackson. Richard was a graduate of Class Arlington High School, Class of 1953 and he wrote the class song. He was also a graduate of Tufts University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, he served from 1957 to 1960. Richard worked at a Liberty Mutual Insurance Agency and Raytheon and Siemans as a Human Resource Department Manager. He later worked as a local Real Estate Agent. He was a Rotary member for years and spent many nights at the all night parties that he helped put it together for Seniors at North Reading High School. He volunteered at GBH TV answering phone calls for donations. Richard was a former member of the North Reading Auxiliary Police. He was avid lover of music especially, opera and classical. He played sax and clarinet and played the piano by ear. He would play piano for the Elderly Housing at Christmas time and many family parties. He loved the ocean, especially the North Atlantic Ocean, located at Cape Cod. The beaches were a place he took his kids and taught them to swim . He loved Daytona Beach Shores in Florida, which he also enjoyed golfing. Richard enjoyed planting a vegetable garden and giving out the veggies to loved ones and friends. He loved the Braves and Patriots as his top favorite sport teams. Richard loved being a husband, father, and grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his cats and dogs, if as they were his children.
During Easter Sunday, Richard would sing with the choir, his most favorite hymn was Handels Messiah, joining the choir at end of the service. His devotion to his family was unparalleled. Richard loved Christmas time and shopping for Christmas gifts. He enjoyed rides with the family on Sundays around New England and taking the family to Richardson’s Ice Cream. He will be greatly missed by all. His funeral will be held at the Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill Street, North Reading on Friday, December 19 at 10 AM. Bertolino, Sr. – 89, of North Reading and formerly of East Boston, died December 10,
2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. Born in Boston, MA on
October 24, 1925. He was the son of
the late Pietro and Carmella (Chirco)
Bertolino. He was raised and attended school in
East Boston. Joseph was a long time
self-employed realtor in North Reading. He has been a resident of North
Reading since 1958. He was an active member of St. Theresa’s Church, where he
served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years and was a member of the
Knights of Columbus, Council No. 4544. He was an avid golfer and longtime
member of The Thomson Country Club. Family members include his
beloved wife of 68 years, Calogera “Cal” (Dasaro) Bertolino; his loving
sons, Joseph P. Bertolino, Jr. of North Reading and
Peter M. Bertolino
and his wife Pamela of Fuquay Varina, North
Carolina; he was the devoted brother of Angelo Bertolino
and his wife Estelle of Stoneham, Richard Bertolino
and his wife Esther of Peabody and
Josephine Schott of East Boston; he was the brother of the late Frank Bertolino, Anna Allito, Anthony
and Michael Bertolino; he was the cherished

Frances C. (Le Brun)
McNeil – 90, of North Reading, died
Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Sawtelle Family
Hospice House in Reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Stuart E. McNeil. Born in Baltimore, MD on
May 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Thelma V.
(Anderson) Le Brun. She was raised and attended
school in Stoneham and was a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 1942.
Frances was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, she was
discharged as a Corporal in 1946. She worked for many years
in the Tax Collectors Office, for the Town of North Reading. She has been a
resident of North Reading since 1950. Frances enjoyed reading and
watching golf, after her retirement. She loved travelling with her sister,
Jeanne to Scandinavian Countries, Portugal and England. She also enjoyed
visiting her good friend Evelyn Holden in Maine. Family members include her
loving son Stuart C. McNeil and his wife Charlene Gagnon; her cherished
grandson, Ewan L. McNeil and his wife Jessica (Magnan)
McNeil, all of Andover; her sister, Jeanne Clifford of Falmouth and her late

Gloria M.
(Mazzotti) Carr – 88, of North Reading and formerly of Roxbury, died
Thursday evening, December 4, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Peabody. She was
the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Carr. Born in Boston, MA on July
15,1926, she
was the daughter of the late Urbano and Luigia (Monticone) Mazzotti. Gloria was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High
School, Class of 1943 and she also attended Bentley School of Accounting in
Boston. Gloria worked for many
years as a Bookkeeper. She worked for Bay State Auto Spring in Roxbury, Bart Tribuna and Company in Boston and she was an owner of
Carr’s Hallmark in North Reading from 1963 to 2014. She has been a resident of North Reading
for the past 59 years, and during that time she was a member of St. Theresa’s
Church and she belonged to the prayer group. She opened her business in
1963 with her husband, who built their first store, brick by brick on
weekends, for years before opening. Her store wasn’t just a job, it was her
life. She loved all the customers, who
became friends and would stop by just to talk. Gloria loved to read
mystery books after she retired. She loved her religion and to pray,
especially for others. Anyone who needed a prayer, healing or special
intention. People would drop by or phone in for special prayers, which she
would place in a special note book. Family members include her
loving daughters, Mary Ellen Carr and Karen Carr; her loving sister, Hope Rabasco and her husband Alexander, all of North Reading.
She is also survived by 9 neices and nephews and
many grandnieces and grandnephews. Her funeral will be held

Arthur J. Diaz, Sr. – 87, of North Andover, formerly of Estero, FL and
North Reading, passed away peacefully
on Saturday, December 6, 2014 with his daughter, granddaughter and his buddy Gordie at his side. Born in Lynn, MA on August
12, 1927. He was the son of the late Olive R. (Wilson) Diaz. He was raised and attended school in
Freeport, NY. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17. He was a U.S. Navy
Veteran of World War II and he served in the Battle of Midway. Arthur worked as a Hoisting Engineer,
for Local 4 in Boston and worked for the Baldwin Steel Company in North
Andover for over 25 years. He was a former resident of North Reading for 41
years, he was a member of the North Reading Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M.
and a member of the Shriner’s. He was member of the
Union Congregational Church, Little
League and was a former Special Police officer, all in North Reading. He also
was a member of the Danvers Fish and Game and the Pelican R.V. Association. He always enjoyed lending a
helping hand, being involved in clubs, coaching baseball and especially being
with his great grandchildren. Arthur was an avid sportsman and enjoyed
fishing, hunting, golf and wintering in Florida, until his retiring there. Beloved husband of 67 years
to Margery (Wigton) Diaz; loving father of Melissa Standley of North Reading, Arthur J. Diaz, Jr. and Donald

- age 8, of Sandown, NH,
died unexpectedly on Monday, December 1, 2014, at Boston Children’s Hospital. Born in Methuen, MA on
November 20, 2006. He was the loving
son of William R. Lamphier of Sandown, NH and Regan
Burke of Sandown, NH and formerly of North Reading. Ethan was in Second Grade
at Atkinson Academy in NH. Ethan brought joy and happiness to everyone around
him. He had a beautiful smile and mischievous personality. He loved to be
around family and friends. Ethan loved music and toys.
He especially liked the wiggles. He enjoyed being outside, going for car
rides and playing in the water. His favorite color was green. Besides his parents, other
family members include his loving brother, Thomas Burke of Somerville; his grandparents, Donna Buccheri
of Haverhill and the late Don Buccheri, Hank and
Gayle Burke of North Reading, Bob and Beth Lamphier

Christine Liebke - 64,
of Dorchester, formerly of Andover and North Reading, died Friday, November
21, 2014 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Orange, NJ on April
22, 1950, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Eleanor (McLaughlin) Liebke. She was raised in North Reading and was a
graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1968. She was a graduate of
Merrimack College in 1979 and Salem State College in 1999, where she received
her Master’s Degree. Christine was Human
Resources Director for the Boston Redevelopment Authority. She was also the
Adjunct Professor at Southern New Hampshire University, she formerly worked
for Casa Myrna Vasquez, the Town of Westford and North Andover. She has been
a resident of Dorchester for the past nine years. She was independent,
adventurous, supportive, generous and compassionate. She was the best friend
you could ever ask for. She was always there to help and just listen. She was always pursuing to learn and grow.
Christine set a great example to all of us. She enjoyed travel, cruising,
music, reading and teaching. She was the loving mother
of Emmy Thompson and her husband Roy of Lorton, VA, formerly of Andover; her
fiancé, Thomas H. “Tripp”Grosvenor, III of

(Buckley) Lucas -
89, of North Reading,
formerly of Somerville, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the Meadow View
Center in North Reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter G. Lucas.
Born in Somerville, MA on
January 3, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Helen (Sullivan) Buckley. She
was raised and attended school in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville
High School. Grace was an office
supervisor for the American Mutual Insurance Company in Wakefield for many
years. She also worked for Dunkin Donuts and Atlantic Food Market, both in
North Reading,
Jordan Marsh Company in
Peabody and at Richardson’s Ice Cream in Middleton. Grace always put others
first, she was a very kind loving woman. A strong advocate of “count your
blessings and do not criticize others unless you have walked a mile in their
shoes”. Be forgiving, be a hard worker, take time and love and have fun with
your family. She was a former Girl Scout
and Campfire Leader. She enjoyed sewing, golfing, bowling and dancing. Grace has been a resident of North Reading
for the past 56 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s Church. She was a
member of Logan Post in Somerville and served as president in the early
1950’s and was a member of the Bugle Corp in High School. Family members include her

Marilyn E. (McNeill) Coyne – 87, of North Reading, formerly of Portland, ME and
Gulfport, FL, died Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Meadow View Center in
North Reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Patrick J. Coyne. Born in Portland, ME on
November 19, 1926. Marilyn was the
daughter of the late William and Eunice (Barter) McNeill. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School
in Portland, ME. She worked as a clerk for
Day’s Jewelry Store and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, both in
Portland, ME. Marilyn was devoted to her grandchildren, she baked fabulous
apple pies, loved the beach, dancing and traveling. She enjoyed reading,
knitting and walking. She has been a resident of North Reading for the past
ten years. Family members include her
loving sons, Gary Coyne and his wife Jeanie of Falmouth, ME and Dr. Michael
Coyne and his wife Elizabeth of Bangor, ME; her daughter, Carol Coyne and her

Arthur N. Brogren,
Jr. - 82, of North Reading and formerly of Dorchester,
died on Saturday, November 15, 2014. He was the Beloved husband of the late
Patricia (Walsh) Brogren. Born in Boston, MA on June
2, 1932. He was the son of the late Arthur Nils Brogren
and Domenica (Anastasi) Brogren. He
attended Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of Boston Technical High
School. He also took classes at Northeastern University, Boston University
and Dartmouth College. Arthur was Vice President
of the Messinger Insurance Company in Everett, for
many years. After his retirement he
worked for Mahoney’s Garden Center in Winchester. He was a resident of North
Reading over fifty years and a member of St. Theresa’s Church. Arthur served
in the U.S. Navy Reserves for twelve years. He had a love for
photography, the outdoors, seashores, patriotism and a commitment to family.
He enjoyed new cars, traveling around New England, the latest electronics and
carpentry. Family members include his
loving daughters, Jean M. Dooley of Woburn and Carol A. Brogren
of Stoneham;
grandchildren, Matthew R. Dooley and his fiancé Eliza Massie of Cambridge and Tracy D.

Robert A. Loud - age 70, of Wilmington,
formerly of North Reading, passed away on Veterans Day, November 11,
2014, after a period of declining
health. Born
in Winchester, MA on March 12, 1944.
He was the son of the late Robert W. Loud, who also passed away on
Veterans Day, November 11, 2002 and Priscilla A. Proctor DeGroot.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol A. (Mitchell) Loud and his twin
sister, Ann Loud Duggan and her husband Gerry, all of Wilmington. His two daughters, Michelle Stosez and her husband Joe and Meredith Bennett and her
husband Mathew, all of Maine and his 4 grandchildren, also survived by his
special aunt, Louise Proctor Shields and her husband Ken of New Durham, NH,
Three nieces, several cousins, step brothers and step sisters. Robert
served his country for 3 years in the U. S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier
U.S.S. Essex. He graduated from North Reading High School, he was a former North Reading
Firefighter and worked at H.P. Fuller and Terrill Corp in Wilmington. He was
a former member of North Reading Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. and served on
the advisory board of North Reading Assembly Order Of Rainbow Girls. A
graveside service will be conducted in the veterans section of Riverside
Cemetery, North Reading on Thursday, November 20th at 10 AM, with
military honors presented by the U. S. Navy. Memorial

Mildred I. (Anderson) Wilson - 98, of North Reading, died Tuesday, November 11,
2014 at Meadow View Care and Rehabilitation in North Reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Claude
Wilson. Born in East Boston, MA on March 21,
1916. She was the daughter of the late
Olof E. and Hulda (Sandstrom) Anderson.
Mildred was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High
School. She has been a resident of North Reading for the past 57 years and was a
member of the Martin’s Pond Union Baptist Church for many years. Mildred was
a former Telephone Operator and also worked for Compugraphic. She was always dedicated to
her family, Mildred enjoyed crocheting, reading, word games and playing
bingo. Family members include her
loving sons, Steven Wilson of Tewksbury and David Wilson of Wilmington. She
was the sister of the late Ethel Richardson. Calling hours will be held

Mary
(Kalkanajian) Stanuchenski - 92, of North Reading, formerly of Chelsea, died,
Friday evening, November 7, 2014 at Winchester Hospital. She was the beloved
wife of the late Frank Stanuchenski, who died this
past December. Born in Chelsea, MA on July
3, 1922, she
was the daughter of the late Nishan K. and Bertha (Soultanian) Kalkanajian. Mary
was raised and attended school in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High
School. She worked for the Walden
Shoe Factory in Lynn, the Watertown Arsenal, Charlestown Navy Yard, Lynn
Moccasin, School
Cafeterias in North Reading, she sold
War Stamps at the E. Ethel Little School, the Abbott Shoe Store in North
Reading, North Reading Town Hall and a Domestic Engineer. Mary was a resident of
North Reading for the past 59 years. She was a member of St. Theresa’s
Church, the Garden Club, Historical Society, a former President of the Golden
Age Club and one of the original members of the 4th of July
Committee. Mary worked at the Voting Polls and at the Town Meetings, she also
helped with the town census and she was voted “Citizen of the Year” in North
Reading. She was an avid Candlepin
Bowler, becoming “Team” State Championship Bowler in 1962, she traveled the
U.S. and abroad with the team and she won the Canadian Cup. Mary also
chaperoned a Spanish Class to Spain. Mary loved to cook, she was
an excellent seamstress, she loved to sew, knit, crochet, quilt, do cross
word puzzles and garden. She volunteered at the Lowell Spinner’s Baseball
games in Lowell, selling raffle tickets for the new teams each year. She was
an avid Red Sox and Patriot Fan, she had a great collection of sports items
of both teams. Her birthday was July 3rd
and she enjoyed going to the 4th of July Fireworks in Wilmington
to celebrate with her family. Mary loved making others happy. She was a
wonderful mother and a great wife. Family members include her
loving daughter, Frances Mary Stanuchenski Cheney
of Tewksbury and her son, Wayne Paul Stanuchenski
of North Andover; brothers, John Kalkanajian of

Andrew H.
“Iggy” Vaccari – 84, of Peabody, formerly of Reading, Wakefield and
East Boston, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Lahey
Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. Born in Boston, MA on May 6,1930, he was the son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Cefaglioli) Vaccari. He was
raised and attended school in East Boston. Iggy was
a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a Sergeant and he served
from 1953 to 1955. He was a graduate
of Boston University and he received his Master’s Degree in Social Work. He was a school teacher at
South Boston High School for many years. Iggy was
also a well known as a local Professional Boxer. He was a Camp Director and a
Guidance Counselor. He was devoted to his
family, he had a great sense of humor and had a very colorful personality. He
and his wife Mary, gave their lives to care for their handicapped son, who
had cerebral palsy. Before recently moving to
Peabody, he was a former Resident of Reading for 15 years and was a member of
St. Theresa’s Church in North Reading. Family members include his
loving wife of 61 years, Mary L. (Debilio) Vaccari; his daughters, Susan Forbes and her husband,
William of Methuen and Paula Belliveau and her
husband David of Nashua, NH; sisters Bernice Mastrangelo
and her husband John of Lynnfield, Janice Braccia
and her husband Robert of Danvers and Elaine Repucci
and her husband Mark of Lynnfield; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

David M. Taylor - 77, of Lunenburg, formerly of North Reading, passed
away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Highlands Health Care Center in Born in David was a resident of
North Reading for 42 years and a former resident of When not interacting with
his many weather observers and colleagues, David enjoyed traveling and taking
day trips with his family. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and
Patriots. He was always very friendly and kind to all he met and was always
described as a kind soul with a great smile. David is survived by two
daughters, Suzi (Taylor) Prime and her husband Gary
of Fayetteville, NC and Nancy (Taylor) Chelgren and
her husband Jon of Hamden, CT; his four grandchildren, Zachary Taylor Prime,
Noah David Prime, Michael David Chelgren and
Madison Marie Chelgren; his only brother, Richard S. Taylor, Jr.

Donegan, Jr.
- 86, of North Reading and formerly of Reading, died
Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Sawtelle
Family Hospice House in Reading. Born in Winchester, MA on
July 19, 1928. He was the son of the
late Maurice H., Sr. and Doris (Bright) Donegan. He
was raised and attended School in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High
School, Class of 1946. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he served
from 1946 to 1948. Maurice work for many years
as a self employed carpenter. He has been a resident of North Reading for the
past 58 years and was a member of St. Agne’s Church
in Middleton. He volunteered in many
activities with his children, such as Cub Scouts, Baseball and Pop Warner
Football. He was a member of the Finance Committee for the Town of North
Reading and he also helped build the town bandstand with his son Maurice, in
time for the towns celebration of the 1976
Bicentennial. He was a loving husband,
father and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling with his family in the truck
camper. He traveled up and down the East Coast from Canada to Florida. Family members include his
beloved wife of 58 years, Eleonora (Lucci) Donegan; his loving
sons, Maurice H. Donegan, III and his wife Elena

McDonald – 87, of Brookfield, NH,
formerly of Andover and North Reading, died unexpectedly at his home on
Sunday, November 2, 2014. He was born in North
Reading, MA on March 15, 1927. He was
the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Leszczydsky)
McDonald. Chuckie
was raised and attended school in North Reading. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran
of World War II, he was Seaman First Class and he served from 1944 to 1946. He was a retired
self-employed builder in the Andover and North Reading area for over fifty
years. He has been a resident of Brookfield, NH for the past 14 years and was
a former resident of Andover for 44 years. Chuckie was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He
enjoyed collecting antiques, restoring antique cars and gardening with his
wife. Family members include his
beloved wife of 67 years, Agnes (Arsenault) McDonald; his loving son, Daniel
J. McDonald and his wife Donna (Keyser) McDonald of Andover; grandchildren,

Frederick F. Jones - 60,
of Wrentham, formerly of Reading and North Reading, passed away on Friday,
October 31, 2014, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical
Center in Burlington, after a courageous ten year battle with cancer. Born in Boston, MA on June
30, 1954, he was the son of the late Maurice Jones and Alice (Mair)
Ash. He attended North Reading Schools and was a graduate of North Reading
High School. Fred was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving
from 1972 to 1974. He worked for Mr. Dooley’s Irish Pub and the
Cracker Barrel, both in Wrentham and formerly for the Amvets
Post No. 201 in Ipswich. He was a member of St.
Mary’s Church in Wrentham and a former member of St. Theresa’s Church in
North Reading. Fred was a member of Amvets Post No.
201 in Ipswich, North Reading Loyal Order of Moose, Knights of Columbus,
Council No. 4544 in North Reading and the American Legion in Ipswich. Fred enjoyed life, helping
people, protecting his family, volunteering and charity work. He had a heart of gold, he enjoyed cooking
and feeding those he loved. He especially loved his family. He was most proud
of his role as a father and grandfather. He loved his cat of 20 years, Bailey
and the Patriots. Family members include his
loving wife of 38 years, Laura (Crittenden) Jones; his daughter, Shannon
Jacobs and her husband Craig, all of Wrentham; father of the late Richard A. Jones;

Walter J.
McNeil - 89, of North Reading, formerly of East Boston, died
at his home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, after a
lengthy illness. Born in East Boston, MA on
June 14, 1925. He was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1943.
Walter was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946.
He worked as a truck driver for AAA Trucking and was a member of the Teamsters Local No.
25. He later worked for the North Reading Department of Public Works and did
snowplowing until 2012. He was a resident of North
Reading for the past 65 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s Church.
Walter was a loving husband and father. He adored all his grandchildren and
great grandchildren. He always told funny stories, wise jokes and whistled a
little tune. He enjoyed horseback riding
with his children, he enjoyed swimming and sitting by his pool, watching his
neighbors and friends go by. Walter always enjoyed building things with his
hands. Last but not least, snowplowing and collecting his navy hats. Family members include his
beloved wife of 66 years, Rita (Celino) McNeil; his
loving children, Walter “Buster” McNeil, Jr. of St. Augustine, FL, Christine

Walsh - 86,
of Reading, formerly of North Reading and Gorham, NH, died Saturday, October 25,
2014 at the Life Care Center of Stoneham. He was the husband of the late Yuette (Belliveau) Walsh. Born in Winchester, MA on
January 13, 1928. He was the son of
the late Michael J. and Sadie (Haas) Walsh. John was raised and
attended school in North Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School.
He attended Merrimack College and was a graduate of Salem State College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II,
serving from 1946 to 1947. He was a former Town
Manager for the Town of Conway, NH and Gorham, NH. He also worked as an enthused writer and
reporter for the Berlin Daily Sun. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club. John loved skiing and he
owned his own Cross Country Ski Shop in North Conway, NH, for many years. He
loved downhill skiing and did both, well into his seventies. He also enjoyed
biking and hiking. Travel was also
another passion and he traveled worldwide, especially going to Austria and
Germany. He also loved working with a
handicapped gentleman named Clod, he would take him out to lunch and enjoyed
taking him skiing and biking. John had
a full life with no regrets. Age and illness slowed him down, but he never
gave up the fight. He was the loving uncle to,
Beverly Anderson and her husband Doug of Lynnfield; Norma Claassen
and her husband Clayton of Moraga, CA and Donald Thompson and his wife Cheryl
of Bonita Springs, FL; also survived by many great nieces, great nephews and
a friend, Lala of Shelburne, NH and her family. A graveside service will be
held on Wednesday, November 5, at 11:30 AM in Riverside Cemetery in North
Reading, followed by a celebration of his life to be held at Angelica’s in

85, of Worcester, formerly
of Santa Rosa, CA and North Reading,
passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014 in the Notre Dame Long Term Care
Center in Worcester. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter R. Olsen, who
died in 2012, after 61 years of marriage. Born in New York, New York
on January 27,1929, she was the daughter of the late
Volney and Mary L. (McConkie)
McFadden. Barbara was a graduate of
the University of Michigan, Class of 1950. She worked for many years as a
Substitute Teacher in North Reading and in neighboring towns. Barbara was a homemaker and
was very devoted to her family. She was a resident of Santa Rosa, CA for 23
years and a former resident of North Reading for 32 years. She was a former
member of the First Baptist Church in North Reading and “Friend” of the First
Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa, CA. Barbara enjoyed the arts.
She loved music, played the piano and enjoyed painting. She was an ardent
supporter of the University of Michigan, she maintained letter writing to
five of her Michigan classmates for 60 years. She was always very friendly
and thankful for her blessings. She was constant in her religious faith.
Barbara loved to take pictures at family functions and then loved to share
them with her family members. Family members include her
loving children, David R. Olsen and his wife Stefanie (Kuehnel)
of Corona Del Mar, CA; Robert P. Olsen and his wife Maryanne (Liberatore) of Sudbury and Nancy J. Cahn and her husband
Thomas of West Boylston; her

Pamela K. Nener – 72, of North Reading, formerly of Malden and
Somerville, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House
in Danvers, after a long illness. Born in Somerville, MA on
September 13, 1942. She was the daughter of the late John J. R. Nener and Katherine E. (Flagg) Ford. She was a graduate
of Somerville High School, Class of 1960. Pam worked as a Docket
Clerk at the U.S. Federal Bankruptcy Court in Boston, she retired in 2010,
after 20 years of Service. She has been a resident of North Reading, for the
past 13 years. Pam always took care of
everyone in some loving way that she met throughout her life. She had tremendous
faith even when most people wouldn’t, she did. Pamela battled cancer off and
on for 39 years and beat it for a time. She loved being a public servant for
the U.S. Government and had such pride in doing her job. She was a loving
mother of five, grandmother of eight and loving aunt to many nieces and
nephews. Family meant everything to her. Her favorite past time was sitting
and visiting with her family and friends. Family members include her

Emilio A. “Steve” DiFranza
– 87, of North Reading and formerly
of Melrose, died Monday evening, September 29, 2014, at the Woodbriar Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility in
Wilmington. Born in Boston, MA on
October 13, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Filomena
(Perillo) DiFranza. He was a graduate of the
Vesper George School of Art in Boston in 1950, just as the Korean War was
getting underway. After a tour of duty
with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Korea, he entered The School of the Museum
of Fine Arts in Boston in 1952. Completing a double major in graphic design
and painting in 1956, he was awarded a Clarrissa
Bartlett Traveling Scholarship to study in Europe. Upon his return in 1957, he
taught drawing and design at the Museum School. In addition, he worked as an
Art Director at several Boston Advertising Agencies. He has exhibited
paintings in The Boston Arts Festival, the American Federation of Art
Traveling Exhibit, the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Boston Museum
School Centennial Exhibition. He was given a one man show
of his trompe-l’oeil paintings at the
Flint Memorial Library in North Reading in 1995. His paintings are in private collections in the United
States and in Europe. He was featured in Hot Lines in the Sunday Globe
Magazine and has had great success with commissions for his “Wedding Trompes”. He has
also created the series of panels for the North Chapel at Christ Church,
Andover. Steve retired from advertising in 1992 and has been devoting his time
pursuing his painting and helping his wife Happy, with her rug hooking
business. Steve was a co-author with
his wife Happy in producing Hooking
Fine Gifts with Stackpole Books. He has
volunteered his time for numerous projects and designs for the Town of North
Reading. Steve has been a resident
of North Reading for the past 55 years. He was a member of the Christ Church
Andover and the Boston Museum School Alumni Association. Family members include his
beloved wife of 54 years, Mabel D. (Gorton) “Happy” DiFranza; his loving
daughters, Elizabeth DiFranza and her partner

Patricia M. (Collins) Rollfs - 49, of North Reading and formerly of Allston, died peacefully at her
home on Friday, September 26, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Cambridge, MA on November 10, 1964. She was a graduate of St. Anthony’s School
in Allston, Mount St. Joseph Academy in Brighton and Northeastern University
in Boston. Patty worked as a Physical
Therapist for 25 years at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She has been a
resident of North Reading for the past 25 years and was a member of St.
Michael Parish in North Andover. She was a volunteer at her children’s school,
she also enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking. She loved Mashnee
Island and her dog, Maybelline. Family members include her
loving mother, Helen (Roache) Collins of Abington
and Allston and her late father, Cornelius J. Collins. Her beloved husband of 24 years, Eric W. Rollfs; her
cherished children, Mark, Dennis and Ellen Rollfs,

M. Therese “Terry” (Loorom) Sweeney Quinn – 87, of Methuen and
former resident of North Reading, for many years, died Saturday, September
20, 2014 at the Bethany Health Care in Framingham. She was the wife of the late John A. Quinn
and the late Edward F. Sweeney, Jr. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts
on August 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Marie
Jeanette (Lemire) Loorom. She was raised in Lowell and was a graduate
of Saint Patrick’s School, Class of 1942 and
Lowell High School, Class of 1946. Terry worked as a Customer
Service Representative for the Rainin Research
Group in Woburn, for many years. Terry had a giving and
loving heart, devoting over 2000 hours of volunteering at the Holy Family
Hospital in Methuen. She had a great
love for animals, especially her dog Mushigai and
Clementine and most importantly her children, Christine, Edward, Cynthia and
Tracy. She enjoyed playing Bridge,
sewing, knitting, painting, gardening and listening to music. Terry enjoyed going to the Salisbury and Hampton
Beaches, with her sisters and their children in the summer and skiing in New
Hampshire with other North Reading families in the winter. She also loved
traveling to Ireland, England, France, Scotland and Canada. Family members include her
loving children, Christine T. Cusack and her husband Andy Anderson of The
Villages, FL, Edward F. Sweeney, III of Haverhill, Cynthia Barnes and her husband
Michael of Oxfordshire, England and Tracy Sweeney

Madeline M. (Gushue) Reagan – 94, of Salem, MA, formerly of North Reading and Medford, died
Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem. Born in East Boston, MA on
February 5, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget (Besso) Gushue. She grew up East
Boston with her five sisters and two brothers, graduated from East Boston
High School in 1938. She worked as a secretary. Madeline had a beautiful
singing voice. She won contests and sang with a local jazz band. She worked
at the Navy yard at one point and also did volunteer work during World War
II. She traveled cross country with her brother and his family. Once she
reached southern California, she decided to make it home for several years. When she returned
Massachusetts in the early fifties, she worked for the Beechnut Gum Company
where she met Charlie Reagan. They married in 1955, moved to North Reading
and raised their three children. She was a devoted homemaker, loved to cook
and bake. She was an active member of St. Theresa’s Church for many years.
She was a volunteer at church, a member of the choir and she participated in
the chorus of a local theater group. Madeline and Charlie enjoyed a large
group of friends which included her beloved sisters and their husbands. They
had many memorable times and went on cruises together. She had an amazing inner
strength. Madeline loved her family. She especially enjoyed spending time
with her grandchildren and baking cookies with them. She also held her great
friends close to her heart. Family members include her loving husband of 57
years, Charles J. Reagan; her son, James Reagan and his wife Brenda of Derry,
NH: her daughter,
Patricia Ryan and her husband Matthew of Salem, MA and Carol
Rice and her husband Paul of Concord, MA; her grandchildren; Kerry Reagan,

George F. Gillis - 77, of
North Reading and formerly of Wilmington, died unexpectedly at Winchester
Hospital on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Born in Wilmington, MA on
February 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Ann (Connors)
Gillis. He was raised and attended school in Wilmington. He was a U.S. Navy
Veteran. George was a retired truck
driver for Berman’s Motor Express and Charles River Labs. He has been a
resident of North Reading for the past 56 years. He was a member of St. Theresa’s Church,
Knights of Columbus, Council No. 4544 and a former member of the North
Reading Auxiliary Police. George was also a member of the Teamsters Union. George had great enthusiasm
for life and a remarkable ability to make and retain friends for life. He had
a great sense of humor, he was always smiling and was good to everyone. He
was known as the Lollipop Man at all of the Men’s Softball League games and
was a dedicated fan. He loved going to morning coffee with his friends. His grandchildren and great grandchildren
meant the world to him, along with his many nieces and nephews. George loved going to
Sebago Lake, he enjoyed camping, fishing and being with his family. He was a
true Red Sox and Patriot fan. He loved playing cards and always joked around
with everyone. George especially loved his dogs, Lilly and Jake. Beloved husband of 56 years
to Dorothy (Sarcone) Gillis, he was the loving
father of his son, George F. Gillis, Jr. and his fiancé Wendy O’ Brien of
Tewksbury, daughters, Debra McCabe and her husband Carl and Kathleen Anderson and her husband
Peter, all of North Reading and Dorothy Welch and her husband William of
Denver, CO; he was the brother of Edward Gillis and his wife Kay of
Wilmington, Richard Gillis and his wife Joyce of Lexington and Eleanor
Cameron and her husband William of Wilmington; he was the brother of the late

Robert W. “Sticker Bob” Fearon,
69, a
resident of North Reading, Billerica and Stoneham, MA, passed away peacefully
on August 24, 2014 after a short illness.
He was the son of the late Walter and Gertrude (Marr) Fearon and brother of the late Cornelia “Connie” Johnson.
He is survived by his niece, Jennifer Johnson Adonis, brother-in-law, William Johnson and
many cousins. Robert
W. Fearon was born on February 28, 1945 in Woburn,
MA, and attended North Reading and Stoneham Public Schools. Sticker
Bob was a long-time employee of Parker’s Pit Stop in North Reading prior to
retiring a year ago. Always a
jokester, Bob would ask his customers “where’s my chocolate cake?” when
checking out their vehicles for stickers. He
also was employed at Jerry’s Citgo in Stoneham
until it was sold. When not working,
Bob found enjoyment in fishing local rivers and streams in Massachusetts,
offering a helping hand or visiting with friends. Bob
attended and was active in the New England Bible Church in Andover, MA. Bob
will be remembered as a kind hearted friend to many. Calling

Peter E. Surette,
Jr. - 84, of North Reading, died
peacefully at his home on, Sunday, August 24, 2014. Born in Woburn, MA on November 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Peter
E., Sr. and Adele (D’Entremont) Surette.
He was raised in Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School. Peter was
a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a Staff Sergeant and
served from 1948 to 1952. He worked for H.P. Hood, Inc. for 37 years and was a member of the
Quarter Century Club. He has been a resident of North Reading for the past 59
years. Peter was patient and very forgiving, he also was very kind to everyone.
He always helped everyone if he could. He was wonderful with children and was
a real good man. He bowled for the Candlewood Bowling Alley in North Reading for over
fifty years and he also played with the “Over 30” Men’s Softball League. Family members include his loving wife of 61 years, Corinne A. (Rightmyer) Surette; his loving
sons, Edward P. Surette and Peter E. Surette, III, both of North Reading, Paul P. Surette and his wife Laura of Billerica and the late
Thomas R. Surette; daughter-in-law, Jean Surette of Tewksbury; his brother, Richard Surette and his wife Marcia of NH and his brother-in-law,

Bette (Clark) Marshall - 74, of North Reading, formerly of Reading and
Malden, passed away unexpectedly at the Lahey
Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington on Thursday, August 21, 2014. Born in Malden, MA on
October 18, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Eleanor
(Edwards) Clark. She was a graduate of Reading High School and Bridgewater
State College. Bette was a former History
Teacher at the Coolidge Middle School in Reading, she retired in 1968. She
was a homemaker and was dedicated to her family. She was a resident of North Reading for
over fifty years. She was a member of the Garden Club and an active member of
the Union Congregational Church for many years. Bette was always willing to
help others, whether at the Church Fair, making wreaths, contributing time
and money to various funds or helping to wash dishes after various functions,
she was liked by all. Family members include her
loving husband of fifty one years, David W. Marshall; sons, David S. Marshall
and his wife Melinda McIntire of Reading and Jamie C. Marshall and his wife
Yuko of Middleboro; her daughter, Laura E. Marshall-Beaulieu and her husband

Sarsfield, Jr. – 83, of North Reading, died at his daughter’s home in
Kingston, NH on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the
late Joan (Koelble) Sarsfield. Born in Cambridge, MA on
December 2, 1930. He was the son of the late Bernard P., Sr. and Mary F.
(Welch) Sarsfield. He was a graduate of St. Clement’s High School in Somerville, Class of 1948 and
Mass Radio & TV in Boston. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean
Conflict, he served from 1953 to 1955. Bernie worked for the
Jordan Marsh Company, as a TV Technician for ten years; AVCO Rad. Corp. in
Wilmington as an Electronic Technician for three years and a was a Field
Service Rep for twenty five years for Searle Diagnostics. He was a well known
Field Service Rep in the Boston area. Bernie was a hard working
individual, with a great sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, canoeing,
fishing, baseball and talk radio. He has been a resident of North Reading for
the past 54 years. He was the loving father of Diane Sarsfield and

Virginia Mary (Boyle) Paul, 88, of North Reading, MA passed away August 18,2014. Virginia was Born May 20, 1926 to James and Ethel (Flanders)Boyle in Lynn, MA and grew up in Salem, MA graduating from Salem High School in 1943. She married Edward Francis Paul of Peabody, MA in 1951 and recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary. She was a resident of North Reading since 1965 and a part time resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida since 2001. Virginia cared deeply about child development and nutritional education. In 1981 at the age of 55 she started her first business, Little Learners Day Care Center in North Reading, MA. Well before her time, she served only organic meals and integrated healthy eating into her mission. Three of her grandchildren were among the hundreds who attended her center. Many Little Learners continued to stay in touch and visited Virginia with their own children right up until her death. Prior to starting her business she raised three sons and was well known around town for her generous nature. She was an ardent promoter of healthy eating and educated herself to the extent that she was at the vanguard of the organic food movement and an educator on personal health and Genetically Modified Foods. After retiring she began a weekly email campaign for healthy eating that was read by thousands of readers throughout the U.S. She was known for jumping into her car at a moment’s notice and visiting a friend in need. She approached life with kindness, a wonderful sense of humor and the patience of Job. Virginia will be deeply missed by her many friends and her family which include her husband Edward of North Reading, MA, son Bradford M. Paul and his wife Heather of Prides Crossing, MA, son David W. Paul and his wife Melinda of Thornton, NH, and son Richard M. Paul and wife Kate of Olympic Valley, CA. Charles E. “Buddy” Crosbie - 89, Of Durham , NC and formerly of North Reading, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Nolan) Crosbie and Doris (Fortunati) Knapp Crosbie. Born in Somerville, MA on August 28, 1924. He was the son
of the late Stearns E. and Edith (Verdi) Crosbie.
Charles was raised and attended school in Somerville and was a graduate of
Somerville High School, Class of 1942. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World
War II. He served from 1943 to 1946 was a Sergeant and fought in the
Asiatic-Pacific and American theater Operation. He received two Bronze Stars
and a Purple Heart from the South Philippine Campaign and Philippine
Liberation. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, where he retired as a Postal Inspector. He was a former resident of North Reading for 26 years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus , Council No. 4544 and an active member of St. Theresa’s Church. He was a hero to his family and friends and proud to be a solid member of "the greatest generation". He always had a positive attitude and never complained despite his declining health. He loved and was dedicated to his family and has left a large legacy of adoring relatives. He enjoyed practical jokes and making people smile and be comfortable. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening and caning furniture. He enjoyed history and sightseeing and would take his grandchildren to numerous historical sites. He was the loving father of sons, Charles P. Nicosia – 58, of North
Reading, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Lahey
Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. Born in Cambridge, MA on
November 30, 1955, he was the son of John Nicosia of North Reading and the
late Evelyn L. (Berg) Nicosia. He was a lifelong resident of North Reading. James worked as a designer
and manufacturer. He was self employed and owned his own company, C2M Company
in North Reading, inventing and manufacturing products. He was a loving husband and
dad, he always did everything to the fullest. He loved his 1948 Chevy
delivery antique car and enjoyed going to car shows. He played blues band music for many
years and enjoyed his dog, Yoricka. Besides his father, he is
survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Barbara (King) Nicosia; his son,
Steven Nicosia and his daughters, Kathleen and Nicole Nicosia, all of North
Reading and Jacqueline King; brothers, John A. Nicosia and his wife Robin of
Maine, Salvatore Nicosia and his wife Annie of Florida and Edward A. Nicosia

Edward P.
Sobocinski – 68, of North Reading and formerly of Wilmington,
died on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Health Center in
Amesbury, after a lengthy illness. Born in Salem, MA on
September 29, 1945, he was the son of the late Thaddeus Sobocinski and
Helen F. (McDonald) Hayes. He was raised and attended school in North
Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1963. After
graduating High School, he enlisted into the U.S. Marines, he was a Vietnam
Veteran, serving from 1964 to 1967. He was a Corporal and was very proud of
his service to his country. Eddie worked as a Master Plumber for many years, he worked for Hillview Plumbing in North Reading and later was self employed. He loved bicycling,
running, fishing, hiking, canoeing and white water rafting. His winter sports
included ski trips and a player for the Blues on the Wilmington Adult Hockey
League, he also played in the North Reading Men’s Softball League. Eddie was a true sports
enthusiast, he loved to dance and enjoyed going to the Plum Island and
Gloucester beaches. He was always known to be a great dresser. Family members include his
loving sisters, Josephine Foster of North Reading, Alice Hinson of Peabody
and Barbara Czerwonka and her husband Peter of
Belmont, NH; dear friends, Kathleen and William Salley
of Newbury and his former wife, Christine M. Jillett
of Andover. He was also survived by

Mary V. (Wistuba)
Carriere – 94, of North Reading and formerly of Dorchester,
died on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Wingate of Andover. She was the beloved
wife of the late Peter A. Carriere, Sr. Born in Boston,
MA on March 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Franz Hubert Wistuba and Mary Lillian (Magee) Wistuba.
She attended the L.D. Batchelder School in North
Reading and Reading public schools. She was a graduate of Dorchester High
School for Girls and later attended Burdett College. Mary and her
husband Peter owned and operated Carriere Furniture
Repair in North Reading for over fifty years. She has been a resident of
North Reading for most of her life. She was an active member of St. Theresa’s
Church for many years and later volunteered at the North Reading Town Hall.
Mary loved sewing and she taught drapery and slipcover making and Interior
Design for the Adult Ed classes in North Reading and Medford. She enjoyed
spending many winters at her home in Greenacres, Florida. Family members
include her loving sons, Peter A. Carriere Jr. of
North Reading, Joseph F. Carriere and his wife
Marilyn of NH, her daughter MaryAnne Doyle and her
husband Joseph of North Reading, her late son, James L. Carriere
and her daughter-in-law, Rosemary Carriere of North

Peabody, the late Lillian Hasselman, and brothers

Richard Alan “Dick” Atwell - 84, of North Reading and Wakefield, died
at his home on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Born in Melrose, MA on
April 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Richard Atwell and Eunice (Coburn)
Atwell Hopkins. He was raised and attended school in Wakefield. Dick worked as a Heavy
Equipment Operator for the North Reading Public Works Department for many
years. He has been retired for over twenty five years. Dick was very dedicated to
his family. His grandchildren meant the world to him, filling his life with
laughter and joy. His humble and caring way is what his family and friends
admired most about him. Although he
was a man of few
words. He always left a lasting impression. Family members include his

Herbert F.
Maine, Sr. - 87, of North Reading, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, July 18,
2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Florence M. (Stratton) Maine. Born in Utica, NY on
February 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Frank A. Maine and Claire B.
(Gibbons) Grant. He was a lifelong resident of North Reading. He was a
graduate of the L.D. Batchelder School in North
Reading and Reading High School, Class of 1945. Herb was a U.S. Navy
Veteran of World War II. He was a Line Foreman for the Reading Municipal
Light Department, he retired in 1982, after 34 years of service. He was a
member of the North Reading Lodge A.F. & A.M. for the past 61 years. Herb very dedicated to his
family. He was a good friend and neighbor, he was always known to be kind,
generous and patient. He was an avid reader of Westerns, Science Fiction and
WWII stories. He loved to spend time in his garden and deliver all the fruits
of his labor to his family, neighbors and friends. Herb was also an avid Red
Sox Fan for many years. Family members include his
loving son, Herbert F. Maine, Jr. and his wife Carol A. White and
two granddaughters, Anna R. and Julia E. Maine, all of Chebeague Island, Maine;
a brother, Frank Maine of Utica, NY and late sister, June L. Proctor. Visitation will be held at

Walter P. O’Rourke, Jr. - 64, of North Reading, died at his home on Saturday, July 12, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Somerville, MA on September 7, 1949, he was the son of the late Walter P., Sr. and Rose (Gilmartin) O’ Rourke. He was raised in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1967. Walter was the owner and operator of Northeast Equipment in North Reading for 37 years. After his retirement he worked part time for the Hillview Country Club. Walter was the oldest of nine children. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed kayaking with his wife Peggy and their beloved dogs, Riley and Kimba. They enjoyed their many vacations in Sarasota, Florida. Family members include his loving wife of 28 years, Margaret (Riley) O’Rourke; brothers, Jack and his wife Dottie, Jim and his wife Lori and Joe and his wife Kristine, all of North Reading; sisters, Rosemary O’Rourke and Kathy Proctor and her husband Art, all of NH, Nancy King and her husband Bill, Terri Cheney, Pat Casey and her husband Joe, all of North Reading; in-laws, Judy Grundy, Kathy, Michael, Stanley and William Riley and Sheila Swanson. Stickney 83, Of North Reading,
formerly of Lynnfield, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Wilmington
Health Care Center. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late William
P. Stickney, who passed away this past June 13. Born in Malden, MA on
February 16, 1931. She was the daughter of the late John D. and Helen (Johnstone) Malcolm. Helen was a resident of North Reading for
the past 34 years and a member of the Union Congregational Church. She was dedicated to her family, she was a
loving wife, mother and grandmother. Helen loved crafts, handmaking
quilts, knitting sweaters and sewing garments. She was always a regular at
her children’s sporting events. She lived by her motto, I
will never look back at a day in the past and wish I had cleaned….. Family members include her
loving son, Stephen Stickney and his wife Karen of Andover; daughters,

Elizabeth M . (Judge) Bakas -
92, of North Reading and formerly of Medford, died Sunday, July 6,
2014, in Wakefield. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter G. Bakas, Sr. It is with our deepest
sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Elizabeth M. Bakas. Born in Malden, MA on
January 22, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thaddeus E. and Margaret
M. (Holland) Judge. She was a graduate
of Girls Catholic High School in Malden and Fisher Business School in Boston. Elizabeth has been a
resident of North Reading for over 60 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s
Church. She was a former employee of
the General Electric Company and AVCO Engineering, both in Everett. She was a
homemaker and
dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Family members include her

Maureen (Glynn) Berry - 75, resided in East Kingston, NH and formerly of
Booth Bay, Maine, North Reading and Lynn, died peacefully, Sunday, June 29,
2014. Born in Lynn, MA, on
September 13, 1938, she was the daughter of the late George W. Glynn and
Elisabeth (Quinn) Nelson. Maureen started her career
as a secretary for the General Electric Company in Lynn, moving to other
opportunities, she ended her career at the Revlon Corporation as an Account
Executive. Maureen has been a resident
of Booth Bay, Maine for the past twelve years, where she was a member of the
Barter’s Island Community Center. She was a former resident of North Reading
for over thirty years. This past year, she and her husband resided in East
Kingston, NH. She enjoyed boating and
antiquing with her husband of 53 years. She always enjoyed entertaining
friends and family. Maureen had a
quick wit and always had a smile on her face. Her family was everything to
her. Family members include her
loving husband of 53 years, Keith A. Berry; her son, Mark Berry and his
partner, Maria Spina of North Reading; her daughter, Laurel Ford and her husband,

James B. Pierce - 96, of North Reading and formerly of Wakefield, died
Friday, June 20, 2014, at Meadow View Center in North Reading. He was the beloved
husband of the late Eleanor R. (Hammond) Pierce. Born in El Pubnico, Nova Scotia, Canada on November 14, 1917. He was
the son of the late John and Marie (Nickerson) Pierce. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II,
he served aboard the U.S.S. Springfield. He was involved in the American
Theatre, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and the Philippine Liberation Operations. James worked for many years
as a union carpenter and was a member of the New England Carpenters Union. He
has been a resident of North Reading for over sixty years. He was a member of
the Masonic Lodge and V.F.W. in North Reading. He was an avid boater (into
his 80’s), tuna fishing was his joy, especially catching a big blue fin with
his grandson, Danny Smith. He made
remote control boats for his grandsons and also made remote control planes.
He was an avid reader, especially historical novels and political
biographies. Family members include his
loving daughters, Linda M. Smith of

husband Michael J. of Newton, NH
and Amy J. Graham and her
husband Matthew of Londonderry, NH; his sister, Jean Rouse of Hamilton. He

Stickney - 83,
of North Reading, formerly of Lynnfield, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at
Beverly Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born in Everett, MA on
December 2, 1930, He was the son of the late Leroy and Helen (Kimball)
Stickney. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served from
1951 to 1953. He received his BSEE and MSBA from Northeastern University in
Boston. He was a Professional Engineer. Bill was an Electrical
Engineer by trade, he was self-employed as a Sales Engineer, he manufactured
and sold instrumentation and control systems. He started, owned and operated
Stickney Engineering Associates, Inc. for fifty years. . He was a resident of North
Reading for the past 34 years and was a member of the Union Congregational
Church. He was a long time member of Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic
Association, Boy Scouts of America, Past Master of the Lynnfield Masonic
Lodge and member of the Aleppo Shriner’s. He was
also a member and Past President of the Thomson Club in North Reading. Bill was an avid golfer and
bowler. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a
compassionate and selfless man, always willing to lend a hand to help anyone. Family members include his

Eleanor M. “Lee Lee” Gurliaccio - 77, of North Reading and formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly on June 4, 2014, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston. Born in East Boston, MA on July 21, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Lazzaro and Giuseppina (DeMeo) Gurliaccio. She was a graduate of All Girls Catholic High School in East Boston and later took Real Estate courses. She worked for the John Hancock Insurance Company for over thirty years and later for Star Market in North Reading. “Lee Lee”, as her children called her, has been a resident of North Reading since 1969 and was a member of St. Theresa’s Church. Eleanor was a warm hearted and a friendly guardian angel to all her family and friends. Her hobbies were gardening and she enjoyed working with wood. She was very dedicated to “her children”, Jessica and Alex, who she took care of for all of their lives. They were her biological niece and nephew, however she raised them as if they were her own. She was a North Reading Youth Football and Cheerleading Advocate for her children, because this was a major part of her life. She enjoyed many great times going to their lakefront home in New Hampshire. She always enjoyed taking the kids to water parks, Canobie Lake Park and many movie theatres. Eleanor enjoyed going out with her friends, especially Mae, Peggy and Terry. She lived a beautiful life with her family and friends by her side. Family members include her great grandniece and great grandnephew, Jessica M. Needham and Alex D. Forster, whom she was the guardian of; her brother, Anthony R. Dolores D. (Garvia) Nee
– 85, of Billerica and formerly of Florida,
Wilmington and Reading, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, May 26,
2014. Born in Reading, MA on
February 13, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Garvia and Mary J. (Clements) Bagocius.
She was raised and attended school in Reading and was a graduate of Reading
High School, Class of 1946. Dolores was a former
employee of the IRS in Andover, Town of Wilmington and she also worked for
the Center in Billerica. She was a former resident of Wilmington for over
twenty five years. Dolores was a homemaker and
was dedicated to her family, she was a loving wife mother and grandmother.
She enjoyed arts and crafts and was an excellent seamstress. She was well known for her great sense of
humor. Family members include her
beloved husband of 64 years, John H. Nee; her loving sons, Michael Nee and
his wife Nancy of Plymouth and Timothy Nee and his wife Janet of Beverly; her

Leonard W. “Gig” Stephens – 87, a life-long resident of North Reading, died
peacefully at his home on May 19, 2014. He was the son of the late Angelina
(Borges) and Peter R. Stephens. He was a 1941 graduate of
the North Reading Public School System, he attained an MBA degree in National
and International Air Cargo, Rail, Surface and Waterway Transportation from
LaSalle University and Northwestern University. Leonard was a U.S. Navy, World War II Veteran, having served in the North
Atlantic theatre of Operations as a Gunners Mate aboard a “Liberty Ship”. Gig was a thirty-year
airline executive, Massachusetts Registry Official and professional
race car owner and driver. He was a former owner and founder of McDonalds Associates
Detective Agency in Boston in 1960. He established the first “turbo-prop”
scheduled All-Cargo Air service in New England and appeared in Who’s/ Who in
Aviation, 1973 Edition. He was Instrumental in Governor Edward J. King’s
election campaign; a life member of Boston Fireman’s Post No. 94; D.A.V Post
No. 37 of Reading; USAC Charter Member (U.S. Auto Club) and an active member
of several Republican Committees in Washington, which elected President
George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004. Gig’s love was in
professional race car competition and antique car restoration. He completed
his “Rookie Drivers Test” at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May of 1956. On
July 26, 1959 he broke the world’s speed record for Midgets at Trenton New
Jersey Speedway, starting in 33rd position. Family members include his
loving nieces, Marilyn “Peachie” Stephens Sakaleras of Bradenton, FL; Paula Stephens Hammer of
Lilburn, GA; Shirley
Stephens White of Bartlett, NH; Donna Stephens Lynch of Rochester, NH; a nephew, Thomas P. Stephens of Alton Bay,

Helen L. (Wheeler) Greene - 90, of Windham, NH, formerly of Auburndale, FL and North Reading,
died at her home on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Born in Milford, MA on May
8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna (Johnson) Wheeler.
Helen was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs College. She worked as a Bank Teller,
and also at Stones Department Store in Reading and she retired from BASF in
Bedford. She was an active member of
the Union Congregational Church in North Reading for over fifty years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Red
Hat Society and a long time member of the North Regional Theater Workshop. Helen had a great sense of
humor and was very generous. She enjoyed the holidays, she was an only child
who loved, valued and appreciated her large family. She enjoyed musical theater, sewing,
painting, crafts, shopping, decorating and word puzzles. Family members include her
loving husband of 67 years, John A. Greene; her sons, Paul Webster Greene of

Carl L. Jacques,
Jr. – 94,
of Reading, formerly of Cape Cod and North Reading, passed away at
Sutton Hill Center, North Andover on Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was the
loving husband of the late Helen (McCarthy) Jacques for 63 years. Carl was born in Wakefield, MA. Son of the
late Carl Jacques and Phoebe (Sawyer) Jacques. He was self-employed for many
years and also partnered with his beloved brother Clifford Jacques in the
construction field. In his later years he supervised the maintenance of
several apartment complexes. He served with the 75th Infantry
Division of the U.S. Army during WWII. He earned the Bronze Star during
the Rhineland, Central Europe campaign, along with other medals and
ribbons. He was a member of the VFW and a proud
Mason and Shriner. He loved spending time
with his family. Carl also enjoyed fishing and following the Boston sports
teams. He is survived by his brother, Reverend
Kenneth Jacques, and his wife Betty of Hemet, CA, sisters, Margie Prousalis
of Hollywood, FL and Barbara Montague
of Hemet, CA, and his late brother,
Clifford Jacques. Also by his
four loving daughters, Sally Sanborn of Merrimack, NH, JoMarie
Allen, and her husband Bert of North Andover, MA, Carla Langtry and fiancé

Michael K. Hull, Sr. - 73, St. Augustine, FL and formerly of North Reading, passed into the
presence of the Lord on May 12, 2014 at Flagler Hospital with his devoted
wife and fun loving daughter by his side. He was born on February
4th, 1941 in Windsor, VT,
the son of the late Newton and Jeanette Hull of North Reading and later Kezar Falls, ME. He spent
his childhood years in North Reading and had resided in St. Augustine, FL
since 1993. He was a hard worker, dedicated employee and spent 25 years
working for Nissen’s Bakery in Lynn. After moving to St. Augustine he was head of Security at
the St. Augustine Outlet Mall for 11 years. He was an avid gardener and
enjoyed spending his time working in his gardens and caring for his
lawn. He also had a great love for collecting model cars and going to
antique car shows. His greatest joy in life was spending time at the
ocean front with his devoted wife and family. He is survived by
his wife of 54 years, Virginia Hull, St. Augustine, FL; children, Jeffrey
Michael Hull, Jacksonville,FL, Tammy Lee Fixler, Kensington, NH, Michael Kennedy Hull, Jr., Reno, NV, Linda Lee Brown,

James G. Haerer
– 59, of Andover, formerly of North Reading, died peacefully at his home
on Monday, May 5, 2014, after a brave battle with his illness. Born in Woburn, MA on April 20, 1955. He
attended North Reading Public Schools and was a graduate of North Reading
High School, Class of 1972. He worked at Kitty’s
Restaurant in North Reading for many years.
At the age of 11, Jimmy started his life-long career at his family
owned restaurant, Kitty’s. From making pizza boxes at age 11 to becoming one
of the most hardworking, witty and “charismatic” bar managers, Jimmy was the
reason why so many came to Kitty’s, whether to eat and drink or to work. He
was always being told to smile and when he did it never was without one of
his witty remarks. Jimmy was absolutely the most loving,
protective, compassionate and selfless father to his four children. Jimmy was artistic and had an amazingly
creative mind. He loved the beach , fishing,
painting and spending every free minute he had with his children. He loved playing Let It Ride and
occasionally bought a scratch ticket or two. A few games of Keno never
hurt. Family members include his loving mother,
Juanita M. (White) Haerer of North Reading and his
late father, Frederick S. Haerer; sons, Jonathan J. Haerer of Andover; Jacob J. and Joshua J. Haerer, both of Wilmington; his daughter, Nicole K. Haerer of Andover; his sisters, Denise A. Haerer of South Yarmouth and Kim S. Callahan of

Of North Reading, after a brief illness, at
age 83, she passed peacefully with family by her side on May 4th. Born and raised in Reading, she resided in
North Reading raising her 3 children with her husband William E. Grover, Sr. for over 60
years. She had worked at Schrafft’s in Charlestown before devoting herself full
time to her children. She
was very talented in her creative projects including needlepoint, knitting,
and crocheting. She enjoyed
travelling, taking long family trips throughout northern New England and New
York and being with family. She
is preceded in death by her husband William, Sr. of 54 years; brothers, Earl
and Leeland. She is survived by her sons, William
Jr. and wife Terri of Woburn, David of Fitchburg, Arthur and wife Gizelle of Rindge, NH;
sister- in- laws, Charlotte Lundquist of Frenchville,
ME and Ellie Martin of Wilmington, as well as many nieces and nephews. Among

Marcella J. (Adams) Thomas – 89, of North Reading, died Wednesday, April 30,
2014 at the Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the
late George E. Thomas, Sr. Born in Benton, IL on April
30, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Bock and Bessie (Williams) Adams.
She was raised and attended school in Illinois and was a graduate of High
School in Illinois in 1945. Marcella worked as an Assembler for ten years at Compugraphic in North Reading. She has been a resident of

- 26 of North Reading, MA passed away April 30, 2014. He was born in He was the loving son of Sharon Loesch of North Reading and the late Kenneth Loesch and the brother of Kimberly Loesch of Methuen, MA. Fleming – 73, of Wakefield,
formerly of North Reading, died at her daughters home on Sunday morning,
April 20, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late
Arthur “Hugh” Fleming. Born in Woburn, MA on April
30,1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F.
and Marion L. (Powell) McKeague. Glenda was a
graduate of North Reading High School’s, First graduating Class in 1958. She
attended Malden School of Nursing and was a graduate of North Shore Community
College, School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse and worked at the
Melrose Wakefield Hospital for over 37 years. Glenda first started as a
P.C.T. and later became an RN, while working in 1985. Glenda has been a resident
of Wakefield for the past 52 years.
She was a member of Wakefield Order of Eastern Star, Tontoquin Chapter.
She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, she was also
a loving and caring nurse. Glenda loved traveling, cooking, doing crossword
puzzles and she especially liked cake decorating. She loved scenic rides up
the coast, she liked spending time up Lake
Winnipesaukee with her daughters family. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Family members include her
loving sons, Arthur J. Fleming and his wife Lisa of Pepperell,
Paul S. Fleming and his wife Rose and David A. Fleming and his wife Vilma, both of Lynn, her daughter, Marion S. Stanley and
her husband Richard of Atkinson, NH; she was the cherished grandmother of

Gertrude A. “Trudy” (Maltese) Pinelli - 82, of North Reading and formerly of Stoneham, died
Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danvers. Born in Boston, MA on May
12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Marieanna
(Cina) Maltese.
Trudy was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, Class of 1948. Trudy has been a resident
of North Reading for five years and worked at Kid to Kid Children’s
Shop. She was known for her big heart,
being selfless, her generosity, a great listener, to
be trusting, her love for her family and her compassion and smile. She enjoyed bowling and she
ran a neighborhood children’s summer bowling league. She loved to read the
paper and play scrabble. She enjoyed photo albums and cooking, she was the
“Eggplant Parmesan Queen”. Family members include her
loving son, Michael Pinelli of St. Augustine, FL; her daughters, Karen Chipman of North Reading,
Janice Jones of MA and the late
Elaine Tofuri; her brother John Maltese of

93, of North Reading, died
at her home on Monday, April 14, 2014.
She was the beloved wife of the late Howard Johnson. Born in Stoneham, MA on
September 15, 1920,
she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Jane (Holden)
Dodge. Ruth was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1938 and
Massachusetts School of Art, Class of 1940. Ruth worked as a waitress
for Howard Johnson’s Restaurant and the Colonial Restaurant in
Lynnfield. She worked for 16 years for
Compugraphic as cafeteria manager and cook. Ruth was also a cook and “Responsible
Person” for the Fitch Home and for How’s Work as a companion for Mystic
Valley Elder Services. Ruth has been a resident of
North Reading for the past 64 years and a member for many years at the
Martin’s Pond Union Baptist Church. She was a member of the Christian Women’s
Club and BYKOTA Club. She was a generous, humble,
optimistic, energetic server with a contagious sense of humor. Her readiness
to listen to beloved family and friends always brought assurance, relief,
comfort and hope, as she offered words of encouragement, empathy, support and
prayers. Ruth was a beautiful,
Godly, kind woman, Ruth’s sparkling blue eyes brightened even more with her
bubbling, singing laughter in conversations with everyone she met, no matter
where she was-at home or work, at the store or on the phone, sitting on the
porch or in church. Everyone who knew her loved her. Family members include her
loving daughters, Karen Lee Hurley and

94, of Wakefield, died on
Wednesday evening, April 2, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in
Danvers. Former wife of the late Arthur J. Lynch. Born in Glace Bay, Nova
Scotia, Canada on December 3, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Job and Lavinia (Penny) Clarke.
Muriel was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin School, Class of
1937. She was a resident of
Wakefield for over thirty years, she was a member of the Wakefield Arts and
Crafts Society and the Union Congregational Church in North Reading, where
she member of the Faith Circle. Muriel was a dear and
special person and was loved by everyone who knew her. She always thought of
others and never put herself first. She always made the best of the worst
situation and smiled and gave compliments to others, especially to those who
helped her, as she got older and couldn’t do as much for herself. She was a
great conversationalist and enjoyed being with people. She loved to spend time
with her family and grandchildren, she enjoyed sewing and needlework
(cross-stitch, crewel). Muriel loved to travel, especially going to Cape Cod
and she enjoyed musical events: opera, theatre and plays. She was an avid
reader, enjoyed gardening when she was younger and could walk long distances.
Her church and church family were very important to her. Muriel was a snappy
dresser and matched all her outfits to a “t”, including shoes, scarf and
jewelry. Family members include her
loving daughters, Beverly G. Thompson and Deborah D. Zitola,
both of Wakefield; her son, Bruce Clarke Lynch of Holliston; her brother,
William Clarke of Winchester; her sister, Gloria Piercey of Osterville

April 13, 1923. She was the daughter of the late George and Irene (MacDowell)
Butler. Thelma was raised and attended
school in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1941. Thelma was a homemaker and
dedicated to her family, she was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, the North Shore Music
Theatre and going out to eat. Family members include her

William R. Wray
- 71, of North Reading and formerly of Winchester,
died unexpectedly at his home on March 31, 2014. He was the husband of the
late Martha (Sullivan) Wray. Born in Phoenix, AZ on
February 10, 1943. He was the son of
the late Robert M. and Miriam (Coleman) Wray. He was a graduate of Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, he also attended Kansas State
University and Lafayette College. Bill has been a resident of North Reading
for the past 16 years. He was a retired Research
Scientist for the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge. He also worked as an
Electronics Engineer for Audio Lab and Rowland Institute for Science, both in
Cambridge, Ibis Technology in Danvers and later was self employed at Bill
Wray & Associates. Bill loved learning and was
interested in and determined to teach himself about everything. He was a very honest and generous person.
Bill was a photographer, drummer, pool player, skier, crossword enthusiast
and a devoted Patriots fan. Family members include his
loving son, Andrew Wray of Medford, his brother, Richard Wray of Bellevue, WA

James G. “Jay” Bourne, Jr. – 55, of North Reading and
formerly of Winchester, died at his home on Thursday morning, March 27,
2014. Born in Bridgeport, CT, on
March 26, 1959. He was the son of the

Bourne. He was raised in Winchester,
he attended Winchester High School and North Reading High School. Jay was the owner and
operator of A+ removal in North Reading for 28 years and has been a resident
of North Reading for over 35 years. Jay was an extremely hard
worker and was loved by all. He was very generous and caring. He was an avid
outdoors man. Jay loved fishing, boating and hunting. He was a collector of
antiques, muscle cars and motorcycles. Family members include his

Kyle M. (Linam) Eisenhart – 61, of North Reading, formerly of Brighton, MA,
died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Brighton, MA on
April 27, 1952. She was the daughter

and Lorraine (Doherty) Linam. Kyle was raised in Brighton
and was a graduate of Brighton High School. She also attended Somerville
School of Nursing and Northeastern University. She worked as a Librarian at the Flint
Memorial Library in North Reading for the past 17 years. Kyle has been a
resident of North Reading for the past 33 years and was an active member of
Plant Fitness in Wilmington. She would always put
other’s first. Kyle loved working at the Library with the patrons and the
kids. She was very loved by her
family, she was a wonderful nanny and wife. Kyle was an avid reader, she
loved plants and flowers and especially loved to travel. Florida was her favorite destination with
trips to Busch Gardens, Universal Studios and Disney. Family members include her

daughter of the late George W. and Gladys M. (Whitten) Kirk. Madeline worked as a secretary for the
Shower Queen Glass Company in North Reading for over sixty years. She has been a resident of
North Reading for over seventy years and was a member of the 4-H Club and
Whist Club. She was a homemaker and was very dedicated to her family. She
enjoyed making dolls, afghans, knitting, crocheting, candles, popcorn balls
and baking. She also loved bowling, playing bingo and cards. Family members include her

Mullins - 94, of Reading and formerly of
Somerville, died at his home on Friday morning, March 14, 2014. Born in Boston, MA on
November 18, 1919. He was the son of the late Timothy and Julia (Cronin)
Mullins. He was raised in Somerville
and was a graduate of Somerville High School.
John was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was a Technician 5th
grade and served from 1944 to 1946. He fought in the Rhineland and Central
Europe Campaigns. John worked for over thirty
years at the Boston Naval Shipyard, followed by a career at Marine Systems
Corporation. He was a resident of Reading since 1955 and has lived the last
three years with his daughter and grandson in North Reading. He was a warm, open and
generous man. He had a great sense of humor, with a wonderful smile and a
mischievous glint in his eye. Above all, he was a loving man who was devoted
to his family and friends and showed this love and devotion through consistent,
everyday kindness. John enjoyed
photography and bowling. Family members include his
beloved wife of 60 years, Helen (Towne) Mullins; his loving son, John (Jack) Mullins of

MacLeod. She was raised in North
Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1958. Bettiann obtained her LPN Licensure from Youville Hospital in Cambridge in 1970 and obtained her
Nursing Home Administration License from Babson College in 1972. Bettiann was the owner and Administrator of the Kirkwood
Nursing Home in Wakefield from 1966 to 2011. She loved her family, she
was generous, very caring and would always help anyone. She loved to travel with her husband Ron,
she especially enjoyed going on cruises. She was a dedicated grandmother and
enjoyed their many sporting events. Family members include her

. Hans and Erdmute (Ach) Kubierschsky. He attended schools in Rome, Italy from
1939 – 1949, German School in Merano, Italy from
1949 – 1951, and was a graduate of
White Plains High School in NY, Class of 1952 and a graduate of
M.I.T., Class of 1956. He served in
the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Klaus worked many years as
an electrical engineer. He worked for Transitron in
Wakefield from 1959-1961, Block Associates in Cambridge from 1961-1969,
American Science and Engineering in Cambridge from 1969 -1984 and was self
employed (Kay Kube) from 1984-1991 to his
retirement with Hologic in Waltham. Klaus was active for forty
years in public service in North Reading, he was a member of the Board of
Selectman and served as Town Moderator for over twenty years. He was honored
as “Man of the Year”, with the Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce. He
was always interested in international and local affairs. He was member and volunteer
of MIT Club of Boston, Moderator’s Association, Democratic Town Committee,
Burbank YMCA in Reading and MIT Alumnus Activities. He has been a resident of
North Reading for the past 48 years. He was a U.S. Citizen since 1957, he was
multilingual, an avid swimmer and cyclist, he loved maps and geography and
doing crossword puzzles. Family members include his
loving wife of 55 years, Brigitte L. (Guggenthaler)
Kubierschky;
his son, Ted Kubierschky of Arlington;
daughters, Ruth Kubierschky of North Reading and
Inez Kubierschky of Bradford; his brother, Michael Aradi of Groveland and sister, Juliana Aradi of West Newbury; also survived by five
grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral service will be

Barbara H. (Hughson) Bourne – 81, of North Reading, died at her home on Monday, February 17, 2014. She was the beloved
wife of the late Andre C. Bourne. Born in Cambridge, MA on
January 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Catherine (O’Day) Hughson.
She was a graduate of Wilmington High School. Barbara was dedicated to
her family, she was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. Family members include her
loving daughters, Cynthia B. Dubiel of Dunbarton, NH and Danielle A. Bourne of North Reading;
sisters, Helen Jeffery of FL, Mary “June” Austin of Bedford, NH and Gerry
Gould of Reading, her brother, William Hughson of Wakefield, she was the
sister of the late, James and Robert Hughson. Also survived by four loving
grandchildren, David Dubiel, Jr., Kristi Bourne,
Ethan and Shawn Terrio. Funeral services will be

Lillian M. (Columbare) Puleo – 81, of Newburyport, formerly of Malden, North
Reading and Lakeland, FL, died Thursday, February 13, at the Massachusetts
General Hospital in Boston. She was
the beloved wife of the late Rosario E. “Sie” Puleo. Born in Malden, MA, on June
24, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Libra (Candelora) Columbare. She was raised attended public school in
Malden. Lillian with her late
husband Sie, were owners of Sie’s
Texaco in Andover for many years. She was also a homemaker and was a loving
mom, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was known for her laughter and giving of herself, who never asked
for anything in return. She had a simple lifestyle and she never put anyone
down. She was always a great listener, she loved old movies and going out
with her family. Family members include her
loving daughter,
Deborah M. Marcionek and her husband David of Newburyport; brothers, John and Denis Columbare and sister, Eleanor Cardello,
she was the sister of the late, Fred and Henry Columbare; loving grandsons, Adam D. Marcionek

of Newburyport; also survived by many sisters and brothers in- laws, nieces

Francis A. Perry - 83, U.S. Army Veteran, of Andover, died February
10, 2014. He was the husband of the late Eva M. (Post) Perry. Born in Boston, MA on July
22, 1930, he
was the son of the late James Roy and Betsey (Penney) Perry. He had retired
from the US Army Reserves as a Command Sergeant Major with over 30 years of
Distinguished Service with the 804th Hospital Center Command. He was also a Veteran of the Korean
War. Mr. Perry also worked as a
civilian for U.S. Army Reserves as a Staff Administrator. He was a past
Commander of the American Legion and a member of Post No. 62 in Reading. He is survived by his son,
Scott Perry and his wife Rachel of Dallas TX; daughters, Penney Lowe of
Springfield and Eve Katz of Haverhill. He was the father of the late Roy Perry.
Brother of Faye Hancock and Phyllis Fisher, both of East Boston, Barbara Fronduto and Audrey DiPasquale, both of Revere and Howard Perry of Dedham.
Also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His funeral will be held

Fred was also a loving uncle to Jeanne M. McHale and her husband John, Cheryl A. Condon
and her husband Mike all of Methuen, Joseph L. Gigante
and his wife Christine of Nevada, Stephen F. Gigante
and his wife Tamara of North Reading, Gemma A. Alvarez and her husband Robert of Methuen, Mary
F. Graham and her husband John Delapa of Medfield,
and Paula R. Graham-Dwyer and her husband Christopher of North Reading. He is also survived by several great nieces
and nephews. Fred was a devout member of
the Catholic Church. He was born and
lived in Boston for many years before moving to North Reading where he lived
for 25 years before relocating to Urbana, Illinois to continue his
career with the Cabot Corporation. In
2009, Fred moved back East to be close to his family and settled into
assisted living in Andover. Fred had a love of music
throughout his life. While serving in
the Army during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the Army Band. Later he played trumpet as a professional
musician in several bands throughout Boston.
He also excelled at playing the flute and organ. As a retired chemical engineer, Fred
maintained an active life in Illinois, bowling, cooking, playing golf, painting and had a love of learning languages. He looked forward to and enjoyed all family
gatherings and special events, savoring every bite and always appreciating
everything his family did for him. He will be missed. Visitation will be held at
the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Thursday, February
13 from 9 to 10 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Thereas’s Church, 63 Winter St. (Rt.62), North Reading.

William D. Fox – 75, of Melrose and formerly of Malden, died Sunday,
January 26, 2014 at the Kindred – Hammersmith Transitional Care and
Rehabilitation in Saugus, after a lengthy illness. Born in Melrose, MA on
December 5, 1938, he was the son of the late William D. and Stella R. (Pucko) Fox. He was raised in Malden and was a resident
for over 65 years. William worked as a machine
operator for the Domino Sugar Company, for many years. He is survived by his
loving brother, Kenneth R. Fox of North Reading. Private graveside services

Bertha A. “Bea” (Trufant) Griman - 91, of Peabody and formerly of Everett, died
Friday, January 24, 2014, at the North Shore Medical Center-Union
Hospital in Lynn. She was the beloved
wife of the late John L. Griman. Born in Nashua, NH on December 10,1922, she
was the daughter of the late Ralph S. Trufant, Sr.
and Anna J. (MacDonald) Trufant. She was raised in Everett and was a
graduate of Everett High School. Bea
was retired from the Boston Gas Company. She has been a resident of
Peabody since 1966 and has been a member of the Aldersgate
United Methodist Church in North Reading. She was a member of the Aldersgate Women’s Fellowship and the Friendship Group. She was an avid reader,
loved gardening, bird watching and she rescued many cats and dogs. Family members include her
loving daughters, Laurie (Griman) Tarsia and her husband Bruce of Baltimore, MD and Valerie
Carmody and her husband Roger of Middleton; her brother,
Ralph S. Trufant, Jr. and his wife Josephine
(Perry) Trufant of Everett and a late sister, Mary
Elizabeth Parker. She is also survived
by many beloved nieces and nephews in MA, ME and AZ. Memorial service will be held on Friday,

(Vic) Gaigals -
70, of North Reading, died
unexpectedly at his home, on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Born in Riga, Latvia on
October 22, 1943. He was the son of the late Laimons
and Erna (Petersons) Gaigals. Vic was a U.S. Navy
Veteran, who earned commendation medals for the Vietnam War and a conflict in
the Dominican Republic, he served from 1963 to 1966. He has been a resident of North Reading for
the past 44 years and is a member of the West Congregational Church in
Peabody. Vic worked for 35 years for
United Parcel Service in Chelmsford. Vic served on the town’s Finance
Committee and was a member of the Local No. 25 Teamsters Union. He loved
motorcycling, he was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and
ROMEO’s. Vic loved his family and his
grandkids were his pride and joy, he especially enjoyed boating and his
retirement. Family members include his
loving wife of 46 years, Cecile (Cloutier) Gaigals; his son, Christopher J. Gaigals
and his wife Lisa of Methuen and his daughter, Patricia G. Bolduc
and her husband David of Bellingham;
his brothers, Janis Gaigals and Martin Gaigals of Latvia
and his sister, Vija Owen of Wolfboro, NH. Also
survived by four cherished granddaughters, Samantha, Natalie, Jacquelyn and

Norman E.
Berner - 81,
of Andover and formerly of Buffalo,
NY, died Wednesday, January, 15, 2014,
at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Born in Buffalo, NY on July 30,1932, he was
the son of the late Stephen X. and Mae (Cormier) Berner. He was a graduate of
Lancaster High School in New York, Class of 1951. After leaving Buffalo, NY,
he joined the Merchant Marines, where he learned his love of the ocean. He
was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and served from 1954 to
1956. He was a graduate of Boston
University in 1960, where he received his Bachelors Degree in Aeronautical
Engineering in two and a half years, going days, nights and weekends. In 1960 he became involved
in a lifelong journey in the electronics industry, which included being Intels
first outside Salesman and earning the honor of Salesman of the Year (and
received a new 1967 Mustang) from ITT Semiconductor. He eventually became a founder and
partner of Mill-Bern Associates in Woburn. He has been a resident of
Andover, for the past 47 years and was a member of the North Reading Knights
of Columbus, Council No. 4544. Norm
loved golf and whatever his grandchildren were doing. Family members include his
beloved wife of 62 years, Anna J. (Tryder) Berner; his sons, Norman E. Berner,
Jr. and Stephen X. Berner, II; his daughter, Lisa M. Layman and her
husband Robert, all of Andover; his
brothers, Alvin C. Berner of FL and the late
Kenneth C. Berner;
five cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Abigail, Andrew and Patrick

Bruce Colby – 72, of Peyton,
CO and formerly of North Reading and Melrose, died at his home on Friday,
January 10, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Born in Boston, MA on July
2, 1941. He was the son of the late Herbert F. and Marjorie
(Applebee) Colby. He was a graduate of
Melrose High School, Class of 1959.
Bruce was a retired 27 year Firefighter for the North Reading Fire
Department. He worked for Moynihan
Lumber Company in North Reading and was also a football coach for the North
Reading Pop Warner, North Reading Junior High, North Reading High School and
Winchester High School. Bruce was a former resident
of North Reading for 46 years. He was a member of the North Reading Masonic
Lodge, A.F. & A.M., North Reading Moose Lodge, Pop Warner Football,
Little League Baseball, Firefighter’s Local Union and a member of the Black
Forest Community Church in Colorado Springs, CO. He loved being a
firefighter, loved coaching sports, but mostly loved his family and friends
the most. He enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards with his friends. Family members include his
loving wife of 42 years, Mary H. (White) Colby; sons, Robert Colby of Colorado springs, CO and William Colby and
his wife Megan of Medway, MA; his daughter, Deborah Putney and her husband
Tom of Peyton, CO. He is also survived
by his 11 cherished grandchildren, Emma, Avery and Kacy
Colby (Bob), T.J., Jason and Ashleigh Putney (Debbie) and Xander,

Soderblom - 97,
of Malden, former resident of
Lynnfield for fifty three years, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the
Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene E.
(Simon) Soderblom. Born in Malden, MA on
February 4, 1916. He was the son of the late Axel and Anna (Hokanson) Soderblom. He was a graduate of Malden Public
Schools and
Apprentice School at the
Boston Naval Shipyard. Marshall served
in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1937 to 1940. He worked as a pipefitter
at the Boston Naval shipyard for thirty five years. Marshall was a member of
the Union Congregational Church in North Reading and the North Reading Lodge A.F. &
A.M. He was a charter member of the William Pitt Tavern Lodge No. 1789 in
Portsmouth, NH; Charter Oak Lodge No. 58 in Effingham, NH, where he served as
Worshipful Master;

Alice (Perry) Rex – 88, of Reading, formerly
of North Reading, New Bedford and No. Dartmouth, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Woodbriar
of Wilmington. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick J. Rex,
Jr. Born in New
Bedford, MA on January 27, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Antone and Bertha (Freitas)
Perry. Alice was a graduate of Job S. Gidley School in North Dartmouth , Dartmouth High School (where she was a
Valedictorian) and Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in Boston. Alice worked
for many years as a Registered Nurse for Massachusetts General Hospital in
Boston and for the Greenview Manor Nursing Home in
Greenwood. Alice was a
former resident of North Reading for 42 years and an active member of the
First Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday School. She was one of the original founders of the Citizens’
Scholarship Foundation and the Conservation Committee. She was a member of
the League of Women Voters, Jubilaires Choral Group
and Vacation Bible School. Alice also taught House Bible Study for ten
years, she was a Choreographer at North Reading High School, from 1960 to
1965, she was involved with the First Outdoor Nativity Scene at the Union
Congregational Church and was a Telephone Counselor (Christian Broadcast
Network) in Needham. Family
members include her sons, Frederick J. Rex, III of Littleton, CO and
John C. Rex of Andover; daughters, Amy Rex Smith of Reading,
Jennifer Boice of Rockville, MD and Sarah Rex
of Littleton, CO. Also survived by ten cherished grandchildren. Her funeral
