Jeannette M. (Hewitt) Chandler – 88, of North Reading, formerly of Saugus and Mt. Clemens, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018.
Born in Chelsea, MA on July 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Beatrice (Southerd) Hewitt. She was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of Saugus High School.
She was a loving wife of 68 years to her high school sweetheart Edward Chandler, married on Christmas Eve 1950, a true love story. She was always known for her smile, always very positive and was a beautiful lady inside and out, she was loved by everyone she met. She had the nickname of “Red” given by her husband for her beautiful red auburn hair. She always said “this too shall pass,” a woman of indomitable spirit.
When first married, she worked as an auditor for the U.S. Air Force, at Selfridge Air Force Base, where her husband was stationed. She worked most of her life, over 40 years, as an office manager and executive assistant to Stan Davis, president of Davis Realty in North Reading. She obtained her real estate license then real estate broker license and notary public in the State of Massachusetts.
She loved to read, she was a wonderful cook, especially loved making goodies, she also loved to crochet and knit, she enjoyed boating and spending time up at Lake Winnipesaukee. She loved spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren she was truly one of God’s Angels she was very involved in the church she was a Treasurer for Church of the Good Shepherd as well as Treasurer for the Keewaydin Association.
Besides her husband Edward, she was the loving mother of Janice Joubert and her husband Matt, Susan Walden and her husband Ross, all of Londonderry, NH and the late Michael E. Chandler; she was the sister of the late Edward, Barbara and Robert Hewitt and Dorothy Brown; grandchildren, Jillian and Matthew Joubert, Chandler and Alice Walden; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 95 Woburn Street, Reading on Wednesday, September 19 at 11 AM. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 18, from 4 to 8 PM at Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, North Reading. Memorial donations may be in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
